Seaford .........on a Monday.......CATCH report !!!!

Been watching this little window in the weather more keenly than a double glazing salesman !
About Saturday tea I dropped into the conversation ' Monday evening looks like the only fishable weather for about a fortnight'.
Really dear,you don't normally go on a Monday'! Ah..............that's not a no!
So a quick dive into Prime for a couple of wraps of their finest black and home early enough from non federation business to get to the beach by 7. High water a bit after 8pm.
The Domina was a bit under the weather when I got home......mmmm.......So when she said 'I won't be much company tonight, you might as well go' did I a) say no worries love I'll make you a nice cup of tea or b) Whoooosh ! Yep !.............. Whoosh !
So I pulled up by the flats, conditions were challenging, not as challenging as posting a thread on Conservation and Politics on this forum and it's far easier to get a result on the beach! Oh, you haven't looked.................
Anyway back to the fishing, big waves chasing you well up the beach. The wind hadn't gone round like the forecast said and a stiff westerly was pushing 3 white lines diagonally towards the beach. Safely negotiated the 8 foot sheer drop to a line of weed at the high tide mark, not looking good.
Set up a 3 hook flapper size 2s on the Rampage and gave it large. Lug n squid on 2 hooks and pellet mark 3 in the middle. Initially I wanted to see if I could get past the back tow and hold bottom and rustle up a bite or two.
Now with the beach having shallowed up so much it is tricky to get your line up out of the rollers and the tip was bouncing all over the place, first 3 chucks, were they knocks, squid tip and a pellet missing.
4th chuck, now that was a bite..........and another. Hussah ! 2 tings, of modest proportion I admit, broke the blank . Followed that next chuck with a Colin....
Paper Paper product Fish Seafood Fish
some say aaahhhhhhhhh...some say arghhhhhhhhhh !
…............. so clipped up a 3/0 single hook rig on the other rod and out she went Black and squid head. It was too rough to fish 2 rods especially with the odd rogue lump of weed pirouetting the rod round in the rest so at 7.30 I stood down the scratching rig and prepared to fish the big bait the hour up and down. Up to high tide the waves got bigger and the baits came back untouched, on the turn it flattened off just a little and the knocks came back and 5 more tings greedily hooked up on the big bait.

Greedy little sucker !!!
The last one tied the rig up in knots as it spun through the surf so a quick punt with the scratching rig to use up the last of the worms resulted in 2 more of their brethren. Packed up just after 10pm, some quality shingle time, ten fish in tricky conditions, brilliant. Pellets flew well but no hook ups
Somehow negotiated the 8 foot crumbling shingle cliff and got back to the car with sweat pouring out of every orifice but a happy bunny. That drop is intimidating so beware, bigger tides might also pin you back against it so move early.
2 other lunatics were west of me, they may have been Irregulars (non posting division), time will tell.
Fantastic to post a catch report...tight lines brethren

Hi Louis
Thanks mate. It was better than not fishing ! I enjoyed it. Stay safe you guys though when you go out. Looks like a lot of the beaches have a drop carved into them by wave action. Be sure you can get back up if you need to.
Hope you get some flounders..............bit muddy up that way for me.

Nice tidy session mein Kapitan, the sea conditions sounded borderline so well done in getting out.
I was looking at a mission Sunday but XC weather at the moment says no!

I endorse your comment for any-one veturing out to look early for a way back up the beach.

on second thoughts, I might just try Seaford again to see if any plaice have come in yet instead of the flounder spots, but I probably will end up going to a flounder spot anyway as the weather on the beaches hasn't been good.

Well I did wonder if you ventured out last night and you did, well done mate. I've been too scared to look at the beach since my return in case I didnt like what I'd see. Federation missions certainly look grounded for a while.

Hi Louis
You will need appear at least 2 settled days with lighter winds and a bit of colour to drop out before anything flat pops at Seaford. Flounders at Tidemills end I reckon is your best bet.
Good luck, let us know how you do and make sure base camp is well up from the reach of those breaking swells.

Back from the colonies with a lumberjack shirt I trust ! Er....what beach mate. I reckon we will be fishing at least 30m back from where we were a few months ago and into shallower water. Probably bodes well for flat fish of most varieties, Tonto will be seeking 'sign' when it all calms down again.
Let me know when Domina chains are loosened.
See you mate

You guys got a subscription for that magazine cover ? Yep bigger waves than widewater last week, They don't look quite so bad in the dark though. Good luck with Sunday, Pinot time though I fear !

Well done for finding that 'window' and sliding a few up the shingle.

Thanks chap
Hope you do get out mate, if you're looking down this way I reckon Pevensey/Langney offers the best option looking at the forecast.
Let us know.

MMAD is having trouble with the censors - some-thing about under-sized Colins - he's denying being a Colinophile tho.
XC for Sunday is changing daily. Will make the call Friday night re Sunday, looking at Hove or Worthing at the moment.

Oh yes captain, sod the lumber jack shirt back with frost bite, brrrr Canada in February brrrrr. Anyway given the lack of fishing the Domina has to be relaxed as soon as there is a window in the weather (diary dependant).

Looking forward to the signs, bet Tonto is having a nice break.

Lunatics. lol how rude...... Gave it a bash but only 4 rockling for our troubles.... All on frozen blacks. Had a job to hold bottom as waves were a trifle boisterous. Gave up about half 10. It was only our 4th time at seaford but do enjoy and like the place so will keep persevering.
Hello brother
By definition I recognised that I am a lunatic too. Glad you are not in the Irregulars (non posting division) and thanks for the post.
Do persevere, it can be a lot better than that. Check out big Salty for wave heights, up to 1.2m is ok over there. Bigger than that and the back tow does make it difficult. My fishing logs suggest that in conditions like Monday it will only be small tings, pout and rockling that bother you with the vary occasional lump (not caught by me) Try and catch it with an offshore wind just after a blow, as the colour drops out slightly. You will do much better. Rag and squid can make a difference.
Regards
