hi on my mooring i used cable ties to seize my shackles ,fine all summer .but when i was taking the ropes off found two had broken .what do you use wire or ties ?
we all use cable ties round where i am and had no probs with any but always put 2 or 3 on just in case but could be due to not much movement so they arnt getting draged round the river bed all the time and most are on soft ground
we ust to use monel - ss wire but didnt seem to last as long as the cable ties
what sort of bottom are you over and how much movement do you get ?

I was advised by a chain specialist not to use wire, I've also had a cable tie go on a mooring shackle (no problem on anchor shackles though - they don't suffer as hard a life), so on the mooring I've used the line from one of those cheap crabbing lines you get at seaside shops threaded through as many times as the hole in the bolt will allow. Can't remember how old it must be now, but seems to be holding up fine.

hi soft bottom but can be a exposed coastline in easterly winds .its the shackles connecting mooring ropes to the chain just below the buoy on the swivel . also i only dry out on spring tides then only for a hour or so.
have got some monel wire but i might try the crabbing line .
