I decided to try my hand at using all the lure gear iv been buying up the last few months, so I hit a rock mark quite local and figured I would probably blank.

As expected, it was really cold, and my hopes of catching anything soon changed. With mackerel and gar still about I thought I might be in with a chance at least of getting one of those.

Sadly it wasn't to be, I think I went through every lure I had on me, then came the rain, it completely chucked it down so I ended up completely soaked, freezing and not looking forward to the walk back to the car!

I think I will give up on the lures now and wait until the weather starts to bring in the fish again.

Hoping to get out with the big gear soon, and finally land that Ray iv been hunting.

I was an aquatics specialist for many years, and I'd definitely agree that temperature changes will make fish lethargic, I did a test on a number of aquarium setups, by altering temperatures and they slow down on feeding in colder temperatures as they are slower to digest food.

Warner water increases activity, and feeding.

And Tat, I'll definitely be throwing out baits on my next outing mate

The seasons are messed up,i saw bumble bees yesterday and the shytehawks are pairing up and acting suspiciously behind the chimneys!!!! I think we need to just gets baits in the water and catch whatever comes along, funny thing is I've only caught codling/cod in the summer on the boat, caught some years ago in the fowey river in winter but not on the coast.

Unlucky Ranculus. My favourite style of fishing is spinning, but this time of year I lean more towards float fishing, then bring out the bottom rod when it gets darker with a bit of spinning here and there to keep warm. I know it means you having to haul the kitchen sink, plus a calmish sea for floating, but if I'm out, I try to be equipped for everything. Give it a whirl. Good luck.
