Skeg peir club had a match a couple of miles further north at trunch lane same tide as us and was mostly whiting but a similar result for total numbers of fish. I think I prefer dab fishing to whiting.
Skeg dab fest
I fished the Holbeach club match at North shore road in Skeg sat eve 2 till 7 high tide 5 ish,
It was fish from the off with under and just sized whiting at distance for a start for me with Jeff and Nigel struggling with weed a bit closer in to start with.
The weed eased for them as the tide filled in and they started catching dabs and so did I. I ended with about 40 fish for 9lb 7ozs on the conversion chart ,over 30 dabs and the rest whiting and won the match and also had the biggest fish a 35 cm whiting, Nigel and Jeff 2nd and 3rd with 5lb something each.
The best 4 dabs where 25 -28 cm and came home with me the rest returned.
Bait was fresh lug and frozen blacks mostly tipped with bluey and hardly had a blank reel in all night
