been back a few days, (6 OF US TWO BOATS) have to say it was hard work, plenty cod in the 2 to 6 lb range but the doubles were scarce.
never seen a baitball on the gps??????.
Spoke to Holger who is a local guide for the area, he said the fish were feeding on small herring so to try a smaller shad.

lyngen produced some good halibut up to 110lb so keep them in mind if the cod are not playing.
hope it picks up for anyone waiting to go, it should when the coalies come in in any great numbers.
IF NOT GO TO lYNGEN FOR THE HALLIBUT
uploaded the best cod I got in my album ;-(

Im off to skjervoy fiskecamp in 3 weeks 21st july---28th--(3 of us) just wandering is all the fishing done in the fjord or would it be worth our while travelling out to sea even tho its quite a distance looking at the map if we had to travel further afield coz of slow fishing any idea how long it would take to reach mouth of kvangaean fjord? weve hired a self-drive boat think it has a 30 or 40 hp outboard on it? how far is lyngen from skjervoy?and were you fishing mid water or close to bottom and did you have many other species

Phill, by the time you go there should be lots of small coalies inshore and the cod, halibut and bigger coalies should be scoffin em like no tomorrow, you shouldnt need to go out to sea, I reckon there will be plenty of good fishing pretty close to Skjervoy by then, if you see birds diving drive right into them(slowly so as not to spook the shoal) and you should get hit by cod or coalies on the way down.
The fish can be at any depth.
Close into cliffs you can catch plenty of red cod ( better eating).
Loads of info for Skjervoy on here!
Good luckk
Oh yeah... last year when Anna was running the show (and very efficent and safety concious she too, is compared to previous years, hope she is still there!) the outboards were governed for speed so dont expect the normal performance of a 30hp! they are fast enough tho.

All of this reminds me of our Norway trip early August 2008. We were at Hamniedet. Not far from SKJERVOY/LYNGEN/ARNOYA/. To cut a long story short we charged about like headless chickens most of the week using over 400 pounds worth of petrol between 2 boats ONLY to find the best fishing was right outside our house about a 2 min trip.:doh::banghead: Had massve amounts of fun trying though and i wouldent have missed it for the world. Gutted for MORF  .

Thanks for the info steve, counting down the days now lol, went to senja last year end of april weather was not good bloody cold, biggest cod just under 20lb plenty of smaller cod and coalies tho ,a couple of wolf-fish about 6lb and lost count of the red cod (kelp cod) whatever there called, and a couple of dozen small bright reddy coloured fish only 1/4lb max but ugly things not sure what they were they didnt look like those red fish! we caught them in shallow water 20-30metres on small weighted spinners.

I will do a full report, when I get my breath back, but as a lot of people are probably about to go to Finn mark, thought I would give a quick report on what worked for us.
Best results were on a flying collar rig, and Sidewinder sandeels. I used 8 or 10 oz leads and a 12 in wire boom.
On slow drift areas you could get away with a 9 inch Sidewinder, and 3X 1oz ball leads. Fished mostly at 40 meters of water, and caught fish after fish. Rhubarb and custard worked very well as did white 6 inch sidewinders.
Biggest cod was 39lb, but also a 31lb and had numerous 20 plus fish, and a 23ld Coalfish. Coalfish were bringing up sprats, so 4 inch white sidewinders on a fast retire worked very well.
Giant jig heads work well for the larger Cod.
Party of 12 persons and 3 boats, so we could explore the area in depth.
Get out to sea for the bigger cod, and avoid the fish farms. Having said that the Coalfish were caught very close to a fish farm. The big coal fish, despite prolonged efforts to revive it, died, and when gutted was full of salmon pellets.
Great fishing all week, boat I was on had a total of 11 Halibut boated. Many caught on Sidwinders, but also dead Coalfish fished 10 turns up from the bottom.
The other 2 boats had slightly fewer Halibut, but, 1 of the party had up to the boat a estimated 80lb fish !
Broke the line whist working out what you do with a 4 foot fish on a 18foot tinny!!! It would of gone back anyway, but the captor , gutted, about no photo.
Pirks and Gummy Mac method did work but 3 potential hook up caused problems with many double hook-ups of 5-10lb fish.
Even had Wolfish on the sidewinders. Not hooked, just holding on like Bull terriers up to the boat.
Full picture report will come soon.
