Could anyone give me any pointers to help with one of my shore fishing ambitions, eversince I started shore fishing and reading on the subject the one fish I've always fancied catching is a smoothhound . I have fished with a bloke from the sourhwales section this year who has caught them and the way he described the hit and fight has given them even more appeal. The only place I have in mind is llanndwyn ( excuse spelling) island , I know primary bait is fresh crab, can anyone advise any other marks and times where I could try ? I know catching one of these bad boys is a big ask for someone who gets out 2 times a month tops, thats why I'd really appreciate any advice. Cheers Paul.

pensarn is a good spot for hounds..crab is the bait to use,the chanel as said by kellan is exellent..big tides expose a sandbank..chesties are esential...but be aware !!! the channel fills in quickly so try not to go on your own,but saying that there is normaly someone else fishing for the hounds..but keep your eyes on the rising tide and keep safe

I've always wanted to fish the rock channel but never got around to it . The marks on Anglesey where I've caught smoothhound are the inside of Holyhead breakwater and Raven's point :fishing:.

You dont really haha wading through chest deep water for 200 yards while keeping everythink dry makes uwchmynydd seem easy:blink:
Oh I don't know about that :g:, as a lure angler the idea of wading through deep water seems like fun :fishing:.

No but you have to cross a gulley to get onto the bank. As the bank first shows was the time to cross last year as the best fishing was in the first hour or so as the tide is dropping.

The gulley is emptying out as you cross so the return is ok and over dry sand if you don't stay too long but be aware that the tide obviously does flood behind you.

It's quite safe if done correctly but the banks change and I've not heard if its the same this year. Like everything though its best going with someone whose done it before for the first time.
