south sheilds pier today

arrived at the pier at about 8.45 fished the tide up then back down again. baits used were rag and fresh crab. not really much about apart from the odd nibble. but paul did manage a double shot of a small dab and a flounder. then some prat of a skipper decided to park his boat 30 yards from the pier directly in front of where we were fishing to empty his lobster pots. he was there for a good half hour and didnt even have the decency to appologise.
the mark we were fishing was the 44 mark, i ventured to the end of the pier where another bloke was fishing but he was also blanking. we decided to pack up at 1.30. there were some people fishing the 1st gates, about 5 in all, one of the said he had had a small plaice and a rockling.
went down to the rathouse corner to give the crabs a drink of fresh seawater and had a look along there, nobody had caught anything, went up to the glasshouse where someone was just setting up to fish with his son, but it was low tide and there wasnt much water.
so we then decided to have a first look in that new tackle shop - fishing republic, spoke to the young lad who deals with the sea fishing stuff, he answered my questions well and even took me out the back to have a look at the fresh and frozen baits they stock, very helpfull so may give them a go in the future.
