hi

as i have sold my boat to get something smaller and faster .

i have looked at a few different 25-28ft boats anyone know what the starfish 8m are like

cheers
Hi Dave they are bullet proof, well built, heavy layup and perform well. There are enough of them chartering to give you some idea of the quality.

There is a really nice looking example called 'Chocolate' (great name) just gone on findafishingboat. It is reasonably local and not expensive if it is as good as it looks.

Good hunting.

Starfish 8m, had one for 18 months. Great sea boat, well built, quick enough if its got a 200hp + engine. Down side . . . ? they roll a bit at anchor, dont need much beam sea to get them going? and there are a lot of rough, spartan, hard worked, home builds about!

Best are the short wheel house version, as they are weight sensitive, not so much dead weight, allowing the 'Starfish' to perform. The longer wheel house also ads weight above the water line which I suspect ads to the pendulum effect beam on?

Just had a look at spec., on 'Chocolate', looks like its been built properly, is a late model, two 50 gallon tanks suggest they are either side of the engine (correct position), rear or forward tank create problems, and 14kts cruise with a 180 mermaid, depends on how many crew, but sounds about right on a light boat? However, its the engine I would choose, torque is excellent, uprated to 212hp, it is awesome!

There were issues with the prop position on some home builds, to close to the hull, causing cavitation, and faring the back of the keel helped performance as well.

Send a PM to Snake Charmer (WSF member) - He is a charter skipper who owns / runs a starfish 8 from plymouth.

Ive never been to sea on one, but they do look like fine sea boats when I see him or others owned locally out at sea.
Thats not a boat called 'Secret Star' is it?
