Went to a Cornish south coast mark yesterday for a few hours ....ok 10 hours lol, intent on catching the elusive garfish.

Arrived at HW +2 and set up the float. Conditions were awkward with both the wind ( force 5/6) and tide going in the same direction from left to right. Casting to the left, to try and ensure some sort of float drift, saw many foul casts as the trace was quickly wrapped around the top of the float by said wind.

Tried casting at a lower flatter angle but this cut down the distance of the cast, ah well, good to be out.

Ended up with plenty of small pollack, biggest a 1lb?, but no garfish or mackeral. Tried everything from drifting the float, baits set deep and shallow, spinning with the float, long casts, short casts, even tried artificial eels in the end.

So into the night and changed over to heavier bottom gear. Had squid, peelers, mackeral and large sandeel as bait. Pretty poor fishing on the bottom too, my partner Mr ended up with a rockling of around one and a half pounds and i had a small conger of about 5lbs.

Great to be out though and no rain for a change and that wind did die away after dark to hardly a breath.

Tight lines to you all.
