Arrived at Hayling Island and sourced our crab baits..all hard backs bar 1..O well..we,ll try em anyway..tackle shop next stop. So,£50 worth of assorted baits in the cool box.
We got lost straight away ending up at Lee on solent
a quick U turn saw us at Stokes Bay ........hhmmm very picturesque.
The bistro looked good for a Aberdeen Angus burger.....
wrong....2pm kitchen closed..crawled into the Abyss of a
diner next door to consume the worst excuse for a 1/4 pounder
ive had the misfortune to buy......"South coast cuisine at its finest"......With guts rumbling, belled Pete.......right mate
were here, walked to our chosen spot through bank holiday
families throwin stones, kids swimming, fleets of jet skies and
trainee yachtsman ......nice quiet spot Pete...Thanx !!!

An easy 80 yd cast with Peeler on one rod and live crab on my second set my stall out.Terry was trying our other baits just
to see wot wos working.
16.45,sees the peeler rod take a healthy bend and a massive slack liner.....winding down saw a steady thump ...were in gazza
I tell ya,its been a while ....so yer ok...I played it like a girlie
getting near the shore it woke up..a few seconds of doin the "shoreline shuffle" saw the unmistakable fin shape
of a small shark.....with the next wave ..she was mine :yeah:
Terry doing his "gillie duties" and tailing the fish.
My first Smoothhound ...yippeekia...3lb 8oz :clap3:
She didnt go back easy, but eventually I saw her fin submerge
away from shore.....THANKYOU.
Within 5 mins..Peterpan arrived..my first meet and greet
with a forum member.
A warm handshake and BIG thanx from me for putting us on
his local mark done, pete set up 50 yds to our left.
Within the hour,I was sitting with pete chewin the fat
when I saw my rod arch over....I legged it over ...just leaving
my wallet and car keys next to pete.....sod em...a fish was biting.
I leaned into the kicking fish .....this one had no intention of
cummin in easy....it kited right through terrys lines...ooops
tail walking as it did so.
A couple of mins later saw Terry tailing it out for me unhooking it
and presenting me with my second ever Starry Smoothhound.
Pete weighed it at 3lb 11oz....small but perfectly formed.
Now,Im not gonna mix words....this fish didnt go back alive.
It fought so hard, that although we only had it out of the water
for a quick weigh and piccy....god I nursed that mutha
but it perished in the surf line.....im still dissapointed. :uhuh:
So for all my good intentions,I implore any fishermen fortunate
enough to catch one,"get em back quick".!!!!!!!...PLEASE.

Terry kept going through the motions to no avail, sorry mate
werent to be for you......Dammit.
We all sat there into darkness, but maybe the cold incessent
rain had put the fish down,so at 23.00 we bailed
said our goodbyes and headed off home.
Thanx to Pete, the local , for the help in me finally breaking me
smoothhound cherry !!! cheers mate.
.
100 miles later, dropped tell off...8 miles to go..the power stearing
goes "bang"....great.!!!!
Ok so I didnt have the last larf...and the repair bill will **** me off.
but.....I tell ya....last nights dreams were "Starry filled"
the fishing day was mine.(sighs with relief)

Gaz :)
PS.....Pete Im available for tuition any time mate
he.ll like that........not a lot.!!!!!!!
had lotsa nice piccies ...to big for forum...will have to learn how to
post thumbnails....:g:
