So basically me and a friend were down Granton harbour last night fishing for some mack's, 1 hour each side of high tide. Anyways come about 9:30ish we start to pack our things up and just before were done a totally naked (yes naked) guy walks past me and my friend on the harbour. Nothing but a small towel (not covering very much) and a bag with him, as he walks past us he was as polite as can be, ''excuse me guys, can i just get passed you here''.. Well nedless to say we were stunned and at first started thinking of logical explinations. has he fell in? Has he went in to retreive dropped equipment? Is he just out for a swim at the back on 9 ?? well anyways off down the pier he went as we packed the rest of our stuff.

10 mintues later the Police show up on que, Chase the guy halfway back up the harbour (still starkers) then the lad takes a running jump into the water. Police try to talk him out, not happning, 45 minutes passby with this guy slowly making his... way 'upstream' (not out to sea but climbing / swimming his way long the breakwater edge towards the top of the harbour), and the entire time he's throwing everything from seaweed, shells, mussle's (at one point im sure i saw a crab fly up) at the cops and screaming dogs abuse at them. He was either on drugs or very drunk and spoke with a slightly foreign accent, and the entire time he kept falling over and slipping on the rocks (which are encrusted with coral and shells etc etc and are RAZOR sharp, especialy against bare skin) so i do imagine he had some pretty bad cuts and scrapes to go along with all this, i was curious to see if he would fall on an old hook that got snagged or something, then im sure he would yelp. Anyway, Then the coastguard decides to show up.

The coast guard nips about for 20 minutes with boats of all sizes, then after they finally manage to get him onto a rib Who else last but not least the Coastguard divers finally show up. Slowly strolling up the pier like nothings going on.

Kudos to the coast gaurd for getting the guy before he seriously injured or killed himself but in my opinion it did take them just under an hour to get to the scene which makes me question their responce time.. if this was winter that guy would have died of hypothermia without a doubt and the cops are NOT allowed to enter the water to save him under any circumstances..

Anyways, i thought id share my little event with you guys because it was such an odd thing to witness.. oh and FYI i caught a couple mackerel so it wasent a total distaster..

Just another day if you live around Granton, lots of alternative lifestyle people live down that way and 99.9% are harmless.

As long as they're not carrying an axe or a hammer, it's no biggie.
