Enjoying my first year of fishing off the east coast. Does anyone know if it mackeral can be caught from the shore at the Bawdsey/East lane area during the summer. I have success with a few Bass and Codling only so far this summer. Thanks.

Not generally too many of them from the top of Norfolk right throught to mid Essex way I'm afraid. However....the odd one does show now and then, there were a few taken not long ago from not too far from where you are and I've seen birds diving away there before which is a possible indicator of them.

The water is apparently very clear at the moment so it's the best time to try, only one way to find out pal....

Mackies are few and far between off this coast m8,but there is still plenty of summer species to be had.
Bass,Eels,sole mullet(if you're lucky)occasional wrasse(over rough ground)
a few smoothhounds and doggies.
It's just a matter of trying different marks and tides, not only the sea,but river mouth's and estuarys.(luck also helps!!!!!)

As a yokel, afraid not much chance of Mackerel - however, a nice bit of bass

Good times to be had between Shingle Street and Old Felixstowe at the moment with a few active rag

Keep trying and remember...
