Hi fishers, i have been fishing for bass the last 4 weekends and blanked !!!
i have been fishing the neath river and i dont think the bass are going up after crab yet so i might fish the beach .As any 1 got any suggestion on a good beach and bass location near swansea/port talbot area , oviously your not going to give the best spots but a general area will be fine.
A little tip for the bass hunters out there. Try Llantwit Beach on the right in front of the cliffs, 1 hour after high fairly big tide, calm or rough. Mackerel fillet 3/0 hook 30 yards lob and hold on to your rod. Probably best later in summer but always been very productive 3's, 4.5's, 6's and last years best 1 @ 9 1/2 lb..
Lo Bear,
I don't know the area at all, any chance of some detailed directions to get to the spot youre talking about? I'd be travelling from Cardiff direction. Thanks in advance for your help.

Dont give up..
There are Bass in the river now and the boats have been having them for weeks out from the mouth of the neath river.
If you have one at this time of year it will most likely be a biggie.
well guys i really cant tell you where i fish because it took me 6 years of constant fishing to find the spot i fish produces big bass on the right tide all i can say is that it is down the bottom end of the river near to the mouth , fish on low tide 7.2-8.4 on high tide fish up towards neath , the only problem is the abundance of crab that enjoy eating your bait yum yum
fished there last weekend missed a big bite (rusty) but only had the 1 bite in 3 sessions cant fish there this weekend because the tide is to high 9.9 so i am going to fish the beach. i really really need to catch 1 soon but when i do i will post a photo
Easiest way to get there is to got to Culver House and then keep headig towards Cardiff Airport, keep following that road past the airport, Aberthaw ect then you should pick up signs for Llantwit. Basically drive into town centre and keep you eye out for the sign saying Beach. (Concealed turning) When your at the beach you'll see a white building showers & toilets, walk past that and then anywhere infront of the cliffs. Hope that helps
I seen loads of people fishing the river neath on the weekend, the problem is with tides that big its hard to hold bottom with less than 6ozs weight. I've never seen a big bass come out of the river on a large tide after many years of fishing it, so i never fish the river on a spring. As for marks anywhere from the mouth to B&Q gives bass. The only bait is crab don't waste time on anything else. There are a few bass therebut not millions so try to put most back for next year. doggy
