"Banned from the fishing grounds for 5 days"

This skipper went out with modified nets to catch undersized fish. Wonder how many others are doing the same.

5 feckin days. Try 5 years. Stamp his skippers papers to that effect.

What are "Blinders" (to reduce the mesh size) - how do they work? Cheers, Tony O-P.

How will that 'punishment' act as a deterrent? Boat should have been confiscated. We are far too soft on them - Common Fisheries policy- bollix , we just bend over and take it up the arris. The Icelanders had the best idea - 200mile exclusive zone - look how their waters fare now. For fecks sake flood the Channel Tunnel and GET US OUT OF EUROPE:mad: :ahhh: :banghead:

totaly agree with ya wilky, i think flooding the tunnel too soft, fill it up with all the t~~ts who repeatedly ignore the law in the trawler industry and then fill it, joke's aside, a 5 day ban is *******s, and a fine what thay get away with totaly out weighs a ban and a fine thats why thay continue to do it.
if a uk trawler was to fish there water's and do the same, i have no doubt they would burn, or sink it, only that ain't gonna happen they have eaten all theirs.

They caught a trawler in Sth Africa netting off the coast,it came in at night droped
his nets and then went back outside the limits, result he was captured the boat was confiscated (left in the harbour) the crew or most of them had to fly back to TAWIAN,one member was African and he survived because the locals gave him hand outs, boat eventualy auctioned but only to local`s sold for peanuts, never had another problem with illegal fishing, and there endeth the lesson.

IMO that 'punishment' will INCREASE the number of skippers doing this. A 5 day ban sends out the message that you may as well risk it because if you do get caught the punishment is weak.

The punishment has to mean that getting away with it a few times before getting caught is economically prohibitive surely?
