They are still about up here.

Yesterday, fed up with several blank sessions close to home and in the Straits since my brilliant trip to Kerry, I decided on a change.

It had been suggested to me that as the weather cools the bass along the north coast of Wales head west then south for warmer waters. Seems logical to me. So, did a bit of Google Earth and Navionics research and headed out to the Llynn for my first ever time. My targets bass or if none about, pollack.

What a nightmare the roadworks at Caernarfon are. Nearly 40 minutes queueing.

Chucked a few lures at Aberdaron beach then at Porth Meudwy without a nibble. Decided to try for pollack in the deeper water off the rocky outcrop at the eastern end of Aberdaron beach, I think its called mackerel rock? I managed just one tiny pollack to beat the blank. Met a friendly guy, Jim, who was mackerel bashing without much luck either.


Today, I decided to avoid the Caernarfon roadworks and fully focus back on the bass, but at a new mark that looked "bassy" on Google Earth and I had been thinking about trying for a couple of weeks.

When I arrived the water was disappointingly murky but after my trek to get there I decided to give it a go anyway.
Glad I did, landing five bass, nearly six. I guess they ranged between about 40cm and maybe about 52cm, I forgot to take a tape measure and from the photo, scaled off my rod when I got home.
Four of them where on a white gravity stick and the other, plus the one that came off as I beached it, were on a green/yellow seeker.
I had to stop using the seeker after six consecutive casts caught tiny joey mackerel not much bigger than the lure. There were also a lot of white bait being washed up on the beach. Surprising that I caught any bass at all, with all that food swimming about for them!
