I dont like up and overs , or pulleys.
I do like semi pulleys though, they stay clipped up 100 % of the time I have found,no need for springs to tension the snood, as the sinker does all the work, but you have the benefit of an "almost" fixed pat.
So far as the original post is concerned, I used to tie up rigs identical to it, but found that snood twist was bad,and it came unclipped most casts. If only casting short for surf line fish a clip isnt needed anyway.
There must be millionsof different rigs that anglers "invent" only to find they have been done before. One of the best 'scratching " rigs I have found is the most unwieldy numb looking thing I have come across, everything about it says it will tangle, but it doesnt. Its not designed for long casts, but numb looking or not it works, its called the Urfe Rig..or also called the Portuguese rig,it has been around for quite a while, but it looked just so bad I ignored it, then one day I thought,it wont cost anything ,why not give it a go.I was sceptical at first, but for times when the fish seem shy or absent give it a go, I managed to hook five flats on one a couple of weeks ago when all around me were blanking. I dont know why, it just works. I know five flats isnt world beating, in fact in 3 hours it isnt good at all, but five fish are better than no fish.
