While spinning for Salmon and Seatrout in my local tidal estuary around low water i catch quite a few Brown Trout with small blade spinners.
The biggest i have had is just under 2lb.This is one of 5 i had yesterday.

This is the home made spinner i have a lot of success with.

The area i fish is only 3 miles from the sea and as the tide floods you can catch sea fish(Flounders,Coalfish,Whiting and the odd Bass).

I was wondering if any of you guys that lure fish tidal estuaries ever catch Brownies while targeting other species....

back in wales i used to go fishing for tidal brownies deliberately the way i looked at it was they had followed the tide down and were actively feeding and a lot of the time i used to have more success than when fishing the proper river then when the tide starts flowing again you can fish the same swim for sea trout salmon and mullet that were coming in on the tide ....worked for me

There's no real genetic difference between browns and sea trout, all brownies can go to sea. It really depends on the feeding in the river, the richer it is the less they tend to drop into the salt. Some Highland burns have very few resident browns as a result, and the ones that stay never attain a significant size. Also, I think some trout just like the salt water environment- maybe brine shrimp and sandeel are a salmo's idea of fine dining!

Cheers Graham, thats a nice fish.I have had a few that size over the years.
Out of all the lures i use,the small blade spinners seem to be the best then small gold Tobies come a close second.
The size of lure usualy depends on the water clarity, the more colour in the water the bigger the lure.
