many years ago when i was a nipper , the tide charts used to show a letter " S " and a letter "N " next to the weeks tide times, these as you all no denoted spring and neap tides, the chart i have now shows a black circle, white circle or a cresent left or right, these im guessing show the moon phase, could anyone tell me what they mean in referance to spring and neaps,im probaly being a bit thick here but it is not as simple as the old charts.:g:

Hiya Mate,

Spring tides occur at full moon and new moon - the circles on your chart; and neap tides occur at first quarter and last quarter - the crescents on your chart.

i don't take any notice of the moon things. just the heights and wind forecast, all you need to know.

Lots of evidence that fish like humans are affected by the moon's cycles. E.G. Lunatics (lunar) as an extreme human one"

A full Moon with good cloud cover is always a good time to fish certain tide heights at a local shore venue of mine at night as a fishy for instance.:)

Use the website called Easytide. It offers free 7 day tidal predictions from your own area. Good graph depicting height of tides etc also time of high and low tide.

Not always a good Easterly is fine by East coast Scottish shore cod anglers.:)

This thread has answered some of my own questions thanks.

As a newbie to the forum and indeed angling I was wondering what it means when the tide time is missing and replaced by the stars on the charts.

Many thanks.
