Used these for my rods last year and had nothing but trouble with them.
They went off when they should be on and on when they should be off, killing the batteries.

Can anyone suggest one that is reliable, or would I be as well off just using Mighty Bright tape?

Thanks

Me too...
But i also bought some reflective tape from Halfords, and use them both....I can see my rod tips from where I fish on the wall,(which bay, doesn't matter),and I can see mine from the next one on,which is about 100 yds, using just a normal 6 L.E.D headlamp.........

You go walkabout on the wall as well as me, did a lot of walking last year as the fishing there was crap :wallbash:

What's the difference between Eclipse and standard mate?
The eclipse is black m8. Weird I know, but works fantastically well. Doesnt look like you've got any tip tape on during the day (unless yr looking closely) but at night, under a headlamp, it shows up really well.
Reflects white

if you ask a local sign maker he will have lots of offcuts in his van and most will give enough for loads of rods free. a local guy i asked gave me stacks of red, blue and yellow.. enough for myself and mates for years. we can even match the tape colour to our whippings.

i use this only between the tip and first eye. i hate to see it coiled along the first foot of a rod.

i use reflective tape on its own if i,m only going to be withing 20ft of my rodd all session. [think, evertime you look in the direction of your rod with a headlight your rod tip will light up.]

on an open beach i will add a starlight taped to the tip of my rod.

these i get from askari fishing for 7p each or £6.99 per 100. in an assortment of colours.

if any of you use starlites then keep an eye open at Lidls and Aldi. Once or twice a year they have fishing gear, and usually sell boxes of 50 starlites for only £2.99. Keeps you going for most of the winter.

hi mate,

me and all fellas i fish with use tip lights similar to the one in your pic but the light isn't pointy it's just flat at the end if you get what i mean. anyway, i think they're great and wouldn't use anything else. but each to their own. i buy them in my local tackle shop, cost about £4 but i've never had to change a battery or had any problems in all the time i've used them.

BM.
