Hi all I have never fished for bull Huss before, just looking for some tips on fishing for them so I have some knowledge before I go fishing for them, such as when's the best time of year to catch them and what tackle I will need, and if possible marks to fish not asking for your best marks! Any help will be great thanks Malcolm.

as above, if theres lots of dogs about a mackerel head stops them getting the bait first. if your over mixed ground and picking up small whiting then use a small whole one or whole side fillet. the huss will be feeding on them.

the warmer months will be better for them on the west side of the country.

a simple pulley with a 5/0 hook on 50lb hooklength.

Big squid or fish baits over rough ground,i would use a heavier 100lb hooklength or 150lb,often get conger amongst the huss.

Prefer to use lashed on chunks of macky or bluey myself, as I find huss can be finicky feeders and often drop the bigger baits, but that's just me.
Of course, that also puts you at the mercy of the dogs...

Rocky/kelpy marks, after dark and a rotten bottom are all a good idea.

(For the weight, before you start, lol...)

When you come to handle one do NOT treat it like a doggy otherwise it WILL have hold of you and it hurts!
They aren't sometimes known as the "Nasty Fish" for no reason.

There a bit of a pest when fishing for tope on the bottom and they have a habit of letting go of the bait when they see the boat there seems to be a lot about as we caught more huss than dogs twice last year maybe it was the big baits.

Here's my mate with a couple..
