what kind of tidal flow, depth etc are you going to be fishing.
Deep water and fast current use braid, shallow water uptiding use mono.
That is over simplifying things but it is about right at least it is for me.
If you decide to go with the braid I would advise against using 50lb b/s for general fishing. Remember you might need to pull for a break and if at the time you are using a heavy conger or tope trace its the mainline that will need to break (or one of your knots!! lol)
50lb is seriously hardcore mainline - it will be very very difficult to break.
I know it seems to make sense to go strong as hell because the diameter is so low that you can get away with it capacity-wise but for general reef and banks etc I wouldnt go any higher than 30lb braid. There is absolutely no need and WHEN you have to pull for a break (its inevitable at some point as you are probably aware) it will break with a good amount of force. If its 50lb you will be lucky!!
If you are fishing for tope or other long abrasive fish (rays are another one) then utilise a heavy mono rubbing leading so that they cant come into contact with your braid mainline.
