I wanted to find a few more catch reports from other areas of the UK. I thought it'd be good to have a full list of forums and have them on a map to show there general locality. Obviously they overlap but they still have a local community. So I've had a quick play around with google maps this morning.

Check it out.

Please list any forums that aren't on there and I'll add them to the map.

Don't know whether what you're trying to do will be encouraged on here, but try Googling "Roker Ron" for a forum.

Any chance you could add charter boat locations & details, so it could be like the "boatlaunch" site, but for other aspects of sea angling?

There's forums here on WSF for all regions of the country.
Don't know about the rule situation, but it feels wrong to me, personally, I wouldn't expect to sit in a tackle shop, chatting with the owner drinking tea, handing out maps to any customers, with locations of all the other tackle shops, praps just me though.

WorldSeaFishing, a very good forum it is, doesn't have every angler from the whole UK and so doesn't have all the reports and local knowledge from everywhere.

However I understand that most forums are sponsored by tackle shops but surely WorldSeaFishing wouldn't want to discourage the sharing of information. The idea is more to let people who are new to the forums to know what community is locally available and to give a broad range of catch reports.

On the other hand World Sea Fishing Ltd is getting some free advertising. ;)

Just let me know if you're not happy with it and I'll sort it. :)

I was using the tackle shop example as an analagy, I don't know who or what, if anyone sponsors WSF.

THIS IS NOT WSF's view, it's my own personal view, I do have them :)
It just seems a bit wrong to use one resource to promote another, I feel sure Mike didn't get WSF off the ground by spamming every other forum, in my case, i guess it's just a moral thing, but hey, like I said, probably just me.

I used to be an admin on a large UK Car forum and tbh, a thread along the lines of this one wouldn't have seen the light of day. It would have been regarded as poaching and would have been binned straight away.

It is difficult sometimes to judge a person's intent though, hard call imo...

Fair enough point but I'm not trying to promote one resource over another, just trying to share. :)

I disagree.

Mike's put a lot of hard work into providing the biggest angling website in the UK, and he provides this FOR FREE through advertising revenue which funds updated servers and other technical things that a luddite like me will never understand.

You don't see adverts for Tescos inside ASDA!

I think the intentions for this thread were good, but I'm not sure it's the right place for it. It's a very good idea though mate.

not a good idea. what you going to put back into these forums? or are you just trying to "see" what other good locations to fish. or your doing is giving peoples hard work away for free. im a member on around 5-6 forums, some i report on and others i dont, i dont want tom, dick and harry steeping on my toes when im at my favourite fishing marks

Reading through the thread I get the impression that a lot of people are not comfortable with this thread or the intentions of the poster. It's a good idea, I think if it was hosted on your own webspace or you just had a plain link to it in your signature it would be OK but as there are reservations from the members of the forum about using WSF to enhance publicity for other forums/sites, some of which have commercial concerns it's probably best that this is closed. I'm fairly sure that if this was posted on another forum it would have been binned a long time ago to be honest. If anyone wants to appeal my decision feel free to send me a PM and I'll discuss it with the other mods/admin but I feel this is best closed for now. Hope you understand.
