the shakesphere salt range is a decent range of rods. i have the 8lb, 12/15lb, plus the salt sporting braid 12/20 and 20/30. they are all quality rods so i reckon the uptide will be excatly the same.

as for reel because you want left hand wind that really limits whats on offer. proberly the best uptide reel that comes in left hand wind is the abu 7000i.

hope that helps.

Abu 7001i, but only 4.1:1 gears. Probably better with an Abu Revo Toro 61 with either 5.4:1 or 6.4:1 gears but they ain,t cheap.
There,s a lad in USA who does 5.3:1 LHW Abu 7501,s but not sure what the import duties will be. hookless.com
Also look at the larger Shimano Cardiff/Corvalous 301 or 401 reels or the Daiwa Luna, but the Luna,s are silly money.
Also Avet SX,s at rokmax.
Best deals on Abu 7001i,s is Gerrys of Morcambe.
Shimano,s at spottydogtackle.
Also Okuma Solterra 10lx if you can find them anywhere.
hope this helps....

Abu 7000i mag would be a good choice. However I think a reel that has had a lot of recommendations as a boat reel on a different thread, the Daiwa Slosh 30, is an ideal uptiding reel. The old Penn 535 non-mag is another but you'd have to find a used one as they no longer produce that model.

i said abu 7000 as they do left hand wind which hes after. as far as im aware the daiwa slosh and penn 535 dont do left hand wind even tho they are great uptide reels.

Sorry, didn't read the post properly about it having to be left-hand wind.

Any pressing reason for that Del657?

When I got my first beach multiplier I though that holding the rod in my "wrong hand" to wind in would be awkward, but now I actually prefer it!

Del657 - that's a valid point Swifty49 makes.

When I first started fishing I was very aware of which hand was doing what, and didn't really feel 100% comfortable either way round.

Over time I realised this was just because it was all new, and it actually didn't bother me which hand I used to reel in with.

I now have both left-handed and right-handed reels. My Abu low-profile baitcaster is left-hand, as is my fixed-spool reel. Both used mostly for lures / spinning. My Abu 6500 multiplier and JD500 boat reel are both right-hand wind.

Can you borrow a couple of reels and try them out first? You will want whatever you buy to last you a (long) while so try before you buy?
