Take a look at the Abu esprit or the Shimano Beastmaster. Veals are selling off the 2006 Beastmaster range so take a look at their website.

Have a pair of ABU conolon uptiders and they are great. Tried the Suverans and Daiwa uptiders that go for over £100 and not a lot of difference. Conolons go for about £60-70. Bit over your limit but i think they are great rods!

You are likely to get a secondhand Daiwa TDXU or Abu Suveran for not much more than that. Try looking on eBay, the classifieds section on this website and in local tackle shops, eventually you will find one.

Thanks

Its a birthday present, so wouldn't want to go second hand, but will probably go for one of the two recommended.

One of his current rods, he calls a "poser's rod", cos it bends in two with just a small pouting!!!

What characteristics do these Abu's and Shimano's have?

Cheers

Pross

HI, cot the Conolon 4-8oz and my brother has the surveran 4-8oz. Same action, both bend a lot but will handle big fish - had 11lb smoothys on then and 12lb roker. So not to bad. They also come in a 6-10oz format so they will be stiffer. All depends on what you want? Rod that you can have some fun with or a telegraph pole that will host a submarine to the surface:)
