zzippy uptiders are the nuts had mine 2 years now working on a charter boat over 200 trips-there awesome
i use a penn 535 GS (not the magnets one) on mine, there very smooth indeed and still chuck more than far enough with any lead/bait, but i do use 525 mag xtras for long range inshore bassing

i will say now -DONT BUY ABU REELS- there far too cheaply made and a rip-off. i have seen over 20 fall apart on the deck in the last year, doesnt even matter if there £150 ones, they are a gamble to buy now as chinese manufacturing has ruined them.

at the top end of the scale the penn torque 100 are lovely reels but are top money for a pair

have a look for reviews on the new AKIOS reels, they are similar to abus but sound like they are better made, and around £120ish sounds good value if the reels are quality

my penn 535s were bout £90 each- good value and good allrounders

also try the diawa slosh or saltist but if moneys no option there are the top end shimanos to consider too

just look for anything medium sized, good to cast with and a quality build

Much deepens on how good you are at casting.
I have been using a Toro revo winch, so far not had a problem.
Has a very good drag system so can handle good fish.
Much deepends on your budget, but I would say level wind is good to have, it just makes thing easier, when playing a fish, good line laying is essential for casting.
Charter boat uses Fladen reels, very good value and seem to be reliable.

penn 535 for me every time,
been using mine for 3 yrs now, no servicing, and not really any regular maintenance, still as smooth as the day i got it.
tried a slosh 30 for a while, but just kept doing the bearings?
good winch of a reel, get a spare spool and fill it with braid for those offshore shadding / gilling trips aswell

Penn 535,slosh 20 or an OLD abu 7000.

I've had my 535 7 years other than wash it, been brill.
My old 7000 is sounding a little dry now, but it must be 18 years old and again only washed.
Slosh 3 years old, other than the annoying clicker well happy

Sounds like the open will be the test run?????

I have been using a pair of abu 6500 for the last 15 years fish of dymchurch in upto 120ft of water. A few Yeats Who I landed a near 50lb conger on one of them. They are a bit worn an beaten . Only had to replace the bearings and a new set of drag washers they have never let me down . :showoff:
