Just been reading the thread / review of the van staal pliers.
200 pounds plus for a pair of pliers? Utter madness..... A similar thing is available from surgical supplies companies for less than 20 pounds. Personally i would want solid gold ones for that price. Lets think shall i buy a poncey set of pliers or a mint secondhand zipplex/ century rod? No contest
my stainless pliers cost me 2 pounds at one of the angling fairs , in fact i bought a dozen pairs and sold 10 sets and made 30 quid! Why oh why would you spend 200 quid just cos its van staal? If anyone thinks they can justify this they probably already own a "red rod" and pop down to the coast in the mercedes to try and temp a few bass at weekends when not at st andrews! Please lets not let sea fishing go the same way as salmon and carp fishing. Do it for the fun not the cudos! I am probably one of the biggest tackle tarts youll ever find but this is obscene!

cant agree more ,if you dont like it dont buy them ,if you want some of the finest out there get on the ROKMAX site and get some Mako pliers should be going for about a 100 notes with tax,i wont be buying either because i never have a pair of pliers long enough to spend that much money on them , I am sure some magpies out there will buy them for shark or game fishing but 200 quid not a hope in hell

DInoboy I don’t think it is case of buying them or not I think BASSCHASINBOY is spot on about the thread/review and the price on the pliers.

If you are a professional and you use items quite heavily and their reliability is tested several times on a daily basis then there may be some justification in £200 for a pair of pliers but in angling I think not, commercial fishing maybe but angling no.

The reviewer goes on about using them “for at least 8 hours a day, everyday, for 18 weeks.” I don’t know what he was doing for those 18 weeks but it could not have been fishing if he was using the pliers for 8hrs a day, and one of his arms must look like popeye's.

Undoubtedly some mug of a tackle tart with more money than brain cells will get them to brag about, a bit like 4 wheel drives with private plates that never go off the road.

But all in all the old saying of a fool and his money are soon parted is true and van staal will find plenty enough fools to part with their cash.

As for the review? I think the reviewer is hoping/expecting a healthy greasing of the palms from van staal for the guff he wrote.
“They’ve pulled hooks and have not worn” whoop de do I have a ten year old pair of pliers that still pull hooks.

“they’ve cut wire continuously and their cutters are still nearly as sharp as the day they came out of the box” so what’s he been doing moonlighting in a wire cutting factory when the fishing is poor?

The reviewer should get a grip on reality which I’m sure he should have no problems doing as he has a £200 pound pair of pliers to help him.

Same reason as you spending £300plus on a zzipy in some people's opinion. Each to their own eh...?

Disagree!! The van staal pliers are excellent i use the Titanium ones.lol
I have a Red rod, A Van staal reel and fish regularly with over 150 bass caught so far this year. Its simply using high end gear gives me more pleasure than cheaper alternatives.

Yes i can afford the best but thats just me, I spent a long time building my business and now spend a lot of time fishing for bass!! I am not saying that the high end gear catches more, its just better quality. Ohh and i dont play golf and i dont drive to marks in a mercedes!! I drive a Range rover instead.lol:bicycle:

Each to there own. I don't mind spending out on top end gear. But it does have to be top end gear, not just a label and someone's wish to push a brand upmarket. I've been on the Branding side of things in Automotive. A sky high price tag is so often used to convince the punter that he's buying a high end exclusive Item. When in fact the profit margin is up in the 500% region. It's very common in the Hi-Fi industry. Slap a gold anodise on for an extra 0.5pence and then charge the punter an extra 350 quid for it. LOL.

still jenny from the block.......

the guys got a point tho, if the high end stuff gets way more expensive, like diawas new plug rods, then the cheaper stuff does too and its quality goes right down, if someones earned it wish them all the best with watever they want to spend it on.

Ok guys . Lets hear it for cheap pliers. I can afford high end stuff but have got more sense! 200 quid for a pair of pliers that probably cost 10 quid max to produce no no no not in a million years! That would get me 3/4 days out on a charter boat. Get a gerber multitool its stainless comes with a belt pouch and you can fit a landyard to it and it also undoes screws removes stones from horses hooves and has less plastic on it!
