Walton seems to be a very 'Marmite' venue. Some absolutely loathe it while others get on well there. Even the pier's own website appears meek in its specie and success rates. I used to fish it as a child. I didn't know what I was doing and my dad couldn't help (he was my taxi there and back) but I only ever managed a solitary flounder by fluke. Since then, the state of the pier seems to have deteriorated. I'm sure there used to be shelters on the stem!

I do want to fish it again and take my budding angler kids with me but I'm reluctant to waste my time again. There's also very little on WSF regarding Walton Pier and even less on the positive side so this one is an encouraging sign.

Han , you must be missing reports ? Lots of guys drop reports here on Walton . As for. How it fishes , the end of the pier as got to be one of the most prolific shore skate marks in the country . Regular catch bags of 4-5 or more fish for some anglers in spring / early summer . Good number of fish go into doubles . Fair number of decent bass tend to be caught most years . It’s also good mark for sole , dogs odd stingray in summer months . As for now it’s ting and pout season with odd codling . In past years it used to fish well for cod at night or when there’s a blow . Now it’s like many marks , you’ve got to get session on right tide ? Bit of a lottery !!

Undoubtedly, Alan. I'm glad that people are keen to defend it as a venue. It certainly supports my theory that it was more about the lack of guidance and knowledge I had as a nipper rather than the mark being barren of life.

I think I will give it a proper go when time and tides suit my schedule better. My kids currently LOVE going to Deal Pier because they had their most successful session yet. The irony is that just as many on here have vowed never to fish that pier because it was so snaggy etc.. It goes to show that so much needs to align in order to get a good day/night; not least bait, tactics and tide.

Thanks for the reassuring post.
