If you still want to catch a whiting then I know just the place.

My mate Ray and I fancied a session tucked out of last nights biting wind and with a chance of an early bass in the surf. We decided on tidemills as that seems to be where all the seaford shingle has ended up. The shingle shifters have enough supplies there to keep them trucking for the next six months.

The plan was simple. Two rods each. One with black lug at distance for catching livebaits and anything else in the vicinity and the other rod close in with a 5/0 circle hook.

The distance rods caught 6 inch whiting 2 at a time all night long. Every cast whatever distance the result was 2 whiting.
Try mackerel - 2 whiting
Try squid - 2 whiting

Meanwhile the 'bass' rods with
A mackerel head - 1 whiting
A 6 inch squid - 1 whiting
A 6" whiting livebait - 1 went out 2 came back!

The only variety was a couple of rockling for Ray.

So if there is anyone out there who still wants to catch a whiting then I know just the place.
