Hey lads,
I thought I would post this up as it may stop someone getting into a nasty arguemement and getting hurt.
I was fishing Barry dock yesterday for the mullet had just set up at my usual place, groundbaited and cast out.
I was then approached by four lads, all clutching cans of strongbow, one of which said to me "pinched our spot have you bra".
They then basically set up next to me and in front of me.
I said to one,"Dont you think thats taking the mick? You got the whole dock to fish, have some respect".
I was then told to move cos they are fishing there.
Cut a long story short I stood my ground for a bit but when I was threatened to have a knife stuck in me and thrown into the water I had no choice but to pack up and leave.
I was fuming but eventually calmed down and found another spot to fish.
A few hours later they came walking back and I just kept my head down and avoided eye contact with them....yet still they tormented me and I heared one of them say "If he says anything Ill stick a knife in him".
I was shocked, you just dont expect it when you are fishing.
The reason I am posting this up is just to warn anyone in case they are approached by these idiots.
One was in his late 40,s, one was late 30,s-40,the other two were in their 20s.
There was also a girl with them.
They had english accents but couldnt work out where exactly.
I know they are not from round here as one of them said "Where we come from we chop people like you up and throw them in."

i certainly think you did the right thing by avoiding them , given they were in numbers and drunk. ive had similar experience as above and in that particilular instance we were 7-8 n they were 5 little did they know that there was a bunch of 5 down the line and came up almost immediately it did shut them up and instead we tormented them till they leave( it wasnt right by all means as now my 13-14 yrs old nephew dont come night trips anymore), trust me its worse when your a different colour and in the [wong place]. ever since when im out its more like 2 bunch of us within 1-2 miles max of each other. Im sure you have enough responsibilities ie reason u backed down n moved, its now about who is so calles harder ( thats for kids). well done to you and i do hope them lot have a taste of it in future.

Similar thing happened to me about three weeks ago down oxwich, four blokes approached me on the beach and they were shouting out that they had a knife and that they were going to do me, it was about 1.30 in the morning and the music from the marquee tent in bay view was blaring, when they got closer to me they said **** he is fishing, and then realised the man up to his knees wearing flip flops in the water with a bag of worms, cut up fish and eels in A bag tied around his neck and A jumper covered in fish and worm guts, that he was the one with the knife.............they quietly walked away,.......unfortunately I did not get one bite that night, only wrinkly feet.

Main thing is Rich, you are ok and kept your cool.

It does sometimes cross my mind when you are out on your own just minding your own business on a remote beach or rock that some idiot is lurking waiting for you, and your gear.

Get back in the kayak, safer out there on your own.

Cheers for the supportive replies lads but just to add that the reason I posted this up was to warn people and not to plot any sort of revenge attack.

The police should be informed immediately as they could pick on anyone who was there on their own. I would guess as they had fishing kit they were in fact local to some extent and will be back again, I doubt very much they came from over the boarder for a few cans and to fish.

Its a Police job, even though they might not sort your problem, the case will be logged, collated eventually, and will perhaps lead to faster reactions a bit further down the line, if you say nothing they can do nothing.
