Could anyone give me any advice on how hard to launch retrieve a 175 off sand.
I've put a deposit down on one for sale at £8500. 75 hp mariner 4 stroke outboard.2002,looks in very good condition having sea trial in a couple weeks.
Starting to have second thoughts it may too much to handle and that maybe I should have gone for a 165 any advice welcombed

Quite - even with the underpowered engine, it's very rare to see them at this price level (I don't think I've ever seen one that wasn't a scam), so if all is OK on the sea trial and there's no reason for the low price, it puts the OP in quite a quandry with the worry over launching as there's no way you would ever find a 165 that represents such good value - prices asked for 165's are always very strong, as are prices usually for 175's.

I would bit his hand off if everything checks out with it all you can always fit a bigger winch and more rollers .. as been said before if I was buying new I would be looking at as near 150hp as possibly but its a good starting outfit at that price.. take someone with you on the sea trial and have a good look at the hull in and outside..

The was a guy who had one with an 80 fourstroke on it and it was ok with two up he just cruised at about 2 knots slower than the ones with a 100/115 on them he did ok but he never carried 3/4 anglers

For that money bite his hand off

Beach launching is straight forward if it's done dry. i.e. Put it on the sand and float off then return on the dropping tide and winch it back onto the trailer off the sand.
There are several 175s working from the Varne Boat Club and Dymchurch Angling club. The only real problems occur when the rear rollers are placed too far apart.

Hi mate i beach launch my 175 all the time dont have any probs just have to get organised i drop mine on the waters edge and lay the anchor on the sand thats if your on your own and on returning run you boat far up the beach as you can try and do it on a dropping tide time you get the trailer and motor sorted your boat should be nearly dry i have an electric winch makes life so easy £200.00 well spent around 4500 /5000lbs does the job.... i run a 90 honda on mine and i get 30knts flat out 3 up but the 175 cruises lovley at 21knts at 4000 revs giving good fuel returns ... please please watch out for scams there are a few about good luck with it all super super boat cheers

The 75 will "do grand". You'll never be blown away if you have a lot of weight up but it will be fine.
Check the "grommet issue" with that age (just be aware of the issue). I see you are in Kent... Lots of the Dymchurch lads are beach launching 175's, maybe have a natter to them to put your mind at ease. I'm a slipway man myself ;)

hi mate it is mounted on the trailer in front of the hand winch you have to lift the hand winch around 4 inches on a steel block and rebolt the power for the winch comes from a good car battery mounted on the trailer in a box you can set up a charging lead that runs from your tow hitch but i just charge mine the night before i leave as i said you need around 4500/5000 lb winch got mine from ebay i use a snatch block if the boat gets bogged down in mud or wet sand it just doubles the power of your winch by running it through another pulley but you have to carefull that you dont damage the winch eye on the boat.... slowly does it ....it sounds complicated but it very easy once youve done it a few times if your down dymchurch any time we fish it heavy in the summer so you can see how we do it.. i run out with another warrior between the two of us we have it down to a fine art we can have both boats loaded in around 15 mins and unloaded in 3 mins hope this helps good luck

Very easy just don't go to deep with the trailer don't be afraid to let the bow hit the sand and winch her up I would recommend you put a good bit of plastic pipe on the rear swinging arm they can catch the keel band when pulled of the sand
good luck you will enjoy and don't worry it gets easier each time you do it (-;

depends on how good you are at it I could almost do it on me own
plenty launch 175's at filey without diping there tow truck , good double wheel barrow jockey wheel is the key
I used to launch the 19 ft boat I built before I got my trophy with me and my 6 year old son [ now 18 time fly's] no problems if there was any swell just surfed on in and beached it ,

two of us beach launce the trophy and have never diped the landey in the sea yet even in Scotland just time the launces with the tides and have a push plate on the towbar to send it on it way down the beach and she's thick end of 2 1/4 tone without the trailer
a 175 will only be 1500kgs or so laden

all that said I have been doing it 30 years and have seen plenty that have been doing it a while with small boats like yours Alan struggling , mainly as the have never bean told what to do or seen how easy it can be done
best advice I can give is go watch someone who can do it well and learn there tricks

Here's a picture of mine on my Pro-Angler trailer with the manual winch mouthed on a bracket above, my winch is a Supawinch 5000 used with a snatch block, the Pro-Angler with a Honda 75 won't be much lighter than the rig you are looking at.
