tide mills east of the arm west beach west of the arm but not sure what they call the cricket pitch in the middle ........?

First day of the season this year I caught an oversize goldfish on the tidal stretch of the adur fit as a buthcers dog ! and took me about 20 minutes to get to the net . People do seem to abandon there pets in the rivers for some strange reason and they can it seems flourish and prosper . Sadly though if put in too far down in the salty part of the river or during flood conditions they can get disorientated and washed out to sea I would imagine . A pond fish,s chances of survival introduced into the lower reaches of that particular river I would imagine are pretty minimal .

Lived in Newhaven all of my 57 years and this is how I've always known the beaches. From east pier to tidemills, EASTSIDE BEACH, the one that's closed, SANDY BEACH, and west of breakwater, STONEY BEACH.
Hi young fella, I'm a tad older, very similar as follows

Tide mills to east pier = East side
Inside the breakwater (west arm) = sandy beach
West of breakwater = west beach

I've seen many course fish on both east side & sandy beach over the years including bream, pike, carp, roach etc.

The recent tidal surge resulted in some flooding in the Ouse valley so suspect it was washed out of one of the backwaters

Cheers, sort of confirms what the locals call them. Asked the listeners on my morning show & my mates last night and all came up with
pretty much the same answers.

I was hunting the mullet this summer up and down the river Adur and saw several roach and a common carp caught on bread flake just north of the cement works. The roach were a good 6-8 onces and the carp a solid 6lb+ fish.
