Crept out of the Swale about 8.30 in thick fog. Took a long time to get to Sheerness and passed through 2 big Diesel slicks that went on for at least 2 miles. Very strong smell of diesel - a freighter must have emptied its bilges into the river - disgusting!
Eventually got to the West Cant buoy and started fishing using lug worm and caught 8 dogfish, 2 whiting and a half decent bass. The bass was bang on 42 cm and came home with me as did the whiting and the biggest dogfish. The fog horn was sounding nearly all day at Garrison Point and I pulled the anchor and headed back in thick fog - almost grounded on Jacobs Bank and saw a vessel high and dry on the bank with at least 2 crewmen. Called Dover Coastguard and reported the stranded boats position and the inshore lifeboat found them about an hour later.
