Is there a rod called a Zziplex Zero Plus Bullet ?

I would be happy for some info about this rod and also opinions, even low down ones from Zippy owners, users, traders, dealers, connoisseurs etc on here please.

I have been offered this rod and would like to decide if it suits my purpose.

Buddy has this in his collection. Bought new when it came out in the market many many years ago.
Only used 3 time since so considered brand new. Due to shoulder injury he finds it too powerful for him so has been using his other user friendly Zippy rods.

Is this a fishing rod or a field rod ?

I have never owned a Zziplex rod before and thinking probably it is about time for me to finally have one to fish with before I get too frail.
Had a Conoflex Nemesis Plus that I used for 8 years. Sold it off because I don't ever fish rocks.

Is this the rod for me ? :confused2:

Is it a classy rod to own and use on the beach ? Ferrari ?

Or is it all hype ? :stirpot:

Many thanks ahead as I really need a lot more info.
Andrew

Great Oneready, thanks for the advice.

This Absolutely is a Ferrari. I have the F Zero which I use all the time.
The Zero Plus is the top dog in the Zero range and derives from the Bullet. It is a High performance rod suitable for field, long range or rough ground. If you have the technique to use it you will probably love it - and no its not hype at all.
But bear in mind it is old.! I think £150 to £175 is a fair price assuming it's vgc.
Yee...Ssss ....s, a Ferrari !!! I might be tempted then Coach, thanks for the review

Hardly used one might make good ish money.
I agree with you coach, but zziplex owners dont
I agree with you noddy. Think that since Zziplex don't make these any longer, it might be considered a collectors item and highly prized if brand new pristine.

Thanks for the price guide too. Might consider :)

My son has just sold a MINT, current Zeteque, 4yrs old?? ish for £250. Thats a fair price. A 20+ year old zziplex now discontinued is not worth the same. Not by a way. IMO.
But at the end of the day things are worth what peeps are prepared to pay. Antiques Roadshow demonstrates that all the time.:geek:

This is a very powerful rod, original poster. Not for you, given your comments about your technique in another thread.
If I were in the market I would be happy to part with
£400 for it if condition is A1, because having owned 2 previously I know just what they are capable of.
AS for being 20 years old, so was the rod Dave Richardson used to win his Gold medal at casting worlds a few years ago. Zziplex Quattra sport .

Good comment Are Soles Fish, thanks.
If it was the Bullet, I would not even consider.
But as it is a fishing version, I might keep on training on my technique and strive to go for it ? I am still practicing daily at home and casting smoother, stronger than I have ever before ;)

Or is there a limit as to no matter how well my technique is I may be limited due to my size to handle this rod :confused2:

I own a zero plus and would liken it to an earlier bullet as others have said a very good rod, if you can get it at the right price buy it,if it does not suit your style then you can sell it on, I always find a bullet like an HST will show up any discrepancies in your casting style by that I mean your technique and timing needs to be spot on to get the best from these type of rods

Thank you fishermannell for the info and spec. Much appreciated.

Yup, from all the info here, I gather this Zero Plus is a prestigious branded version of my old Conoflex Nemesis Plus that I have enjoyed 'posing' with for 8 years when fishing on clean beaches. Had not learned to cast well with it then so sold it to a guy in IOW who fish for Congers :)

So guess it is no point of me getting it, unless I need to buy some credibility by looking good and posing with it  :D

I have enough rods to fish the way I enjoy for the moment.
Thanks everyone for providing me with the info so I can make an informed decision. Cheers

Tell your mate I will give him 150 for it lol. ;)
Not to powerful really, buy it and enjoy:happydance:
zero plus,8ft tip,5ft4inch butt, review in july 1997 sea angler by neil mackellow, his words "the zero plus can be wound up like a quattra, but is still capable of bullet type casts, generating even more power than a bullet sv,it is more controllable. with the introduction of the new zero range, many of the old models, including the bullet will be phased out". was first cast at a u.k.s.f. casting demo on clacton beach & he said, "the rod works for me and danny!!" those who say its not to powerful must be 300+ yrd casters ??

Yup, always knew it had some pedigree andy I. Thanks for locating the reviews and publications.
Would definitely look cool posing with that... :cool2:, let's see .

As to be able to cast and fish with it.... errrr... doubts :confused2:

Video below is Jason Carter with his fishing Pendulum on a Zziplex Bullet, the rod which Zero Plus evolved.

WOW !!! That is how to empty the spool on a beach :ughdance:

That's the exact measurements of my zero plus, and I also agree with your definition that it is a powerful rod as I stated you need to be well on top of your casting to get the best out of it.

regarding as been too powerful and i certainly aint knocking zzipies as imo best rods out there, but they come in various stiffnesses.some are stiff but the butt does have some give in it make them user friendly especialy wth the long tip,and there are other zero pluses which are softer making them even more user friendly.regarding rods softening maybe this is correct not too sure though as some zzipies are same after yrs and yrs of use.

Being able to tame a beast makes a person feel good about himself, doesn't it ?

Well, I will get the chance to try casting with it as my buddy just informed me that he will bring it along the next time we fish together in Dungeness :)
So, hope my daily training routine will get me in shape to put the Zero Plus through it's paces soon ;)
Or will it be the other way round :roflpuke:

Well, if I can somehow manage to tame it, wouldn't it be nice to wear a Christmas jumper with flashing lights and pose with it. Merry Christmas ? :cool2: One's allowed to dream eh ? :sneaky:

Not sure about asking price yet, but will have to see how much disposable income I can scrape together during this Xmas period.... hmmmm...

Meantime, back to casting exercises and practice ... no pain no gain ....
thanks guys :)

Thanks Coach for the vote of confidence :D and the invaluable advice. ;)

Buddy of mine is not on WSF. Fantastic gentleman and was my mentor, joined him on his fishing trips 21 yrs ago visiting all the best venues from the Asdmiralty Pier, all over Hythe, Galloway, Dengemarsh and Dungeness. Showed me the ropes of what UK fishing was all about. Been 8 years since I fished with him.

Will be glad to join him again soon :)

Dabhanded, you are definitely blessed to have had a few of these Zero Plus rods. ;)

My guess is that no two of these are the same as they are likely individually crafted.
Identical, but do vary a little in character and stiffness.

Had a rod with a butt like a broomstick which I did not enjoy casting.
Well, that was at a time where I was struggling badly and did not realized it.
Contended to be able to throw out a lead and think that is good enough.

My S African equal length Blue Marlin 14 ft reverse tapered butt rod feels a bit floppy the way I am casting these few weeks. Think I need to upgrade as my casting changed a bit.

I am at the moment looking for a window to meet up with Alain to fish and try out the rod at Dungeness.
Have quite a lot of domestics at the moment, and with Xmas and hols around the corner too.

Thanks mate.

Thanks very much for the info My Zero plus arrived today it's a lovely blank with a great tip action it has a lot Of power in the butt and middle section I think it will be a great rod to fish with and although it has nothing to do with the fishing side of it the black and gold colour scheme make it a beautiful rod to look at I can't wait to put my 7HT Turbo and give it a blast !!!!
