Now lads and lasses,, hope you can help me with a simple question ??

which is ,, i am thinking of buying a stainless prop for me merc 90 outboard

but have`nt a clue of the size ???:blink:. does anyone have any idea of

what size prop as i cant find a serial number or anything of that description.

any info in any respect would be muchly appreciated...... :thumbs:

It all depends on the size / weight and type of boat you have. On your existing prop there should be a series of numbers on it usually followed by two numbers, e.g 15, 16, 17 etc. That is the pitch size. If your boat is running fine and to the correct rev range with that prop then you want the same size.

If you launch or use your boat anywhere you might dink the bottom with it while in gear then stainless is a bad plan. With ally you bend the prop,with stainless you may smash the gearbox. :eek:

Take the existing prop to any propellor repair specialist. He can size it very easily using a little tool they all have. Next talk to the guy about what you want and why and be guided by their advice.

On the hub of the Prop between the blades there will be a long number, the last 2 numbers are the pitch size.

I would echo what Nos said though, unless you are running a race boat stainless props offer more minuses than plusses.

Thanks for the advice everybody i think i will go with what ChrisP said and

not bother with getting a stainless one, just going to stick with the one

thats already on. again cheers for the info lads......:thumbs:
