Hi everyone,

I've been sea fishing for almost 25 years now and I've never had much money and have always scratched around for second hand gear or bought the cheapest I could find. I've recently been left a little bit of money and I'd like to finally be able to buy myself some decent gear.
I'll have around a £1k budget for a beachcaster and fixed spool reel.
I'd like somthing that will last many years.
I mainly fish the sand/shingle beaches of East Anglia.
All advice, tips and recommendations are gratefully received.

Thanks

I recently treated myself to a pair of Century TipTornado supermatch graphex rods. They are a pleasure to fish with and beautifully made. Mine are paired up with Shimano ultegra XSD 14000 reels. Your budget would allow you to get a higher up the range reel if you wanted, maybe the CI4.
If the beaches are really clean where you fish or if you use 5oz leads max you may get away with the match version of the rod or the supermatch LD.
These rods are hybrid rung so can be used with either type of reel. But Veals do fixed spool rung versions. Personally I've had no issues with my hybrid versions fishing with braid mainline.
That's my recommendation anyway. I'm sure with that budget you're going to get yourself a very nice set up 👍

Buy decent good condition S/H gear suited to your type of fishing and you won't go wrong, or spend all your cash. :)

Having used Zziplex, Century and Daiwa rods over the years, my pick would be the Daiwa Tournament Surf or the Air Surf. Incredibly light yet quite firm. Ideal for your beaches.

Bargain buys would be the Daiwa Supercast PM, again very light but great on clean to mixed ground beaches.
