Planning a big tuna fishing trip - have got some diawa sealine 30s on the boat but need something a lot heavier - can anyone suggest the best reels to buy when targeting big tuna?? Will the 7000 abus be upto the task?? Please advise
The 7000 would struggle both in line capacity and grunt - decent tuna strip line of at an alarming rate of knots.
If you want to go small with superbraid then you need something with a really smooth drag that doesn't stick when it heats up - a lever drag is probably best as its easier to adjust when playing a big fish.
A lot of the charters use heavy tackle with penn International reels and rods to match - if it's a one of then I still think it's better to rent the tackle - as it would be a shame to lose such a fish due to inadequate tackle.
