Hi all, Just wondering if wind direction effects the direction black lug burrow.
I had 3-4 pumping sessions where I faced in to the direction the wind was coming from and seemed to get a better success rate. Is this just a fluke or is this the consistancy I am looking for ?
The last session I tried this and it didn't seem to work, The wind was coming from a slightly easterly direction, would this effect it??
And what happens if the wind swings around to a different direction, which way should you pump then??

Just as I think I've got it sussed something else happens that I feel effects my success rate:wacko:

Any info appreciated

Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!

Have no idea, but I do remember seeing/reading/watching a vid which says that generally...stand with yr back to the water, and angle the pump away from the waterline. Ummm, in other words, the handle angled towards you, the business end angled away from you. Hard to explain, and I'm crap at drawing, so I hope you get what I mean. IF this is true, then wind direction shouldnt come into it....in theory

I've been told the same by one pumper , but the direction I get worms seems to vary.
The pumper who told me to pump with my back to the sea, pumps a patch where if it's blowing SW ( which it usually does ) then the wind would be straight in his face if his back was to the sea. A SW wind for the patch I pump would be blowing from my right to left, so to pump with my face in the wind means I'm standing side on to the sea.

I have tried a session where I stood with my back to the water and got no worms until I switched and tried pumping from another direction.:g:

Captain (or anybody for that matter)...do you know of any GOOD instructional videos relating to pumping....either black, common lug or both? There are a few on youtube I know, but usually either the sound quality, or video quality is crap, and they dont give you enough detail/instruction :wallbash:
It's my b'day a week tomoz, might just see if I can get meself a pump, going to chepstow to borrow al's is a bit extreme, lol.

A good cheap one, lol. If you mean what bore, then I'd guess about 30 MM? Thats until I get proficient at it, then maybe go down to a narrow bore....I think thats the way to go about it

what when there's no wind? lol.

they can be in any direction, seems to change almost daily, one day you'll want about 60° and 6" from the hole, another day 90° an inch from the hole, then they're deep or high up, soo many variables. some days they're just everywhere, no common direction or depth!
