If you are going to tayport, try going at low tide and take a fork to get some worms. They will definately improve your chances now that the crabs have come out of their winter inactivity. If you are using fish baits, try rigging them higher up from the bottom or with shorter snoods to keep them away from the crabs. I know a guy who used to fish with freelined sandeeels from a boat in wormit bay and caught loads of sea trout. Not sure this was totally legal but.....
