hi, any advice I have bought a Yamaha Malta 2/3hp year 1996 starts first pull but just wondering about prop - no shear pin prop slips on to spline, if I hit a rock/bottom does prop slip on the spline (as previous motors I had had split pin) I have the owners manual it shows 2 models

1 with normal shear pin/prop/cotter pin

my model shows:
1- thrust Washer
2 - prop
3 - washer
4 - prop nut
5 - cotter pin

Anybody kindly advise
thanks

The prop should be a "through the prop exhaust", the theory is that the prop fits onto a splined shaft on the gearbox ,which in turn has a rubber bush . seperating the splined part from the propellor, the idea is that if you clout the prop the rubber bush will absorb the shock and prevent damage to the gearbox, its not designed to save the propellor

Hope this makes sense

cheers Ian
