Had an eight hour session on the Thames today and it was hard
Lots of tiny fish stripping the bait from the hooks but I had one bite and in came mr bass picture taken an released
The few bass I have had out the Thames this year have been well fat on the local shrimp
The thick lip mullet just don't seem to be there

Lovely fish Steve.

Apparently it's been carp on our river this year, so not too worried about failing to try. Got new winter boots now, and found some semi-fossilised squid when the freezer broke, so the fine autumn fighting Whiting better watch out.

If I can be bothered to drive the 10 mins there of course.

Talking of Jaffa cakes.... Do you know the difference between a cake and a biscuit?

....a biscuit goes soft as it goes off whereas a cake goes hard. That's why they're Jaffa cakes and not Jaffa biscuits!!

Nice catch btw Steve.

Blimey a Thames fish :D nice one Steve,

To be onest I haven't really done much on the Thames this year as the fishing hasn't exactly been spectacular to say the least apart from the fact that I've been so busy this year as I've just gone back into me bird keeping again from a few year break,

Now traveling all up and down the country with bird freinds from old exhibiting our birds ;)

Nice to see that yer still producing the goods Steve, well done mate :)

Lol loads of poles out at cliffe today fishing in the fleets for carp,i couldnt stomach carp myself, have tried pike though, and it was bloody awful, river was bad again, not one bite all day,so decided to give the fleets ago on my zig rigs, bundles of fish in there, you can hear them sucking the snail eggs off the reeds, but they certainly dont like dog biscuits thats for sure, none of my pre-bait got touched,so sweetcorn and bread it is next time,i tell you something though, fresh water dangling is seriously boring, but its better than drowning too many worms and wasting my winter peeler
Got a sprained foot at mo but I'm missing the river.....carp etc is fun but....

Doesn't seem to be dead where Steves fishing...
Yes he has a few good spots, but im sure he will also agree that it isnt fishing too well, the fish for me have been few and far between,of course theres fish there to be had, just not alot of them lol this is my first summer fishing the thames, and ive never had so many blanks, tried different rigs, different baits, different spots all on the one session and not had a sniff....roll on the winter

That's why I haven't fished the Thames for at least 4 months,

Completely lost the interest to tell the truth, going through my records I'd say it's the worst year within 20 years,

Ok if you want thornbacks I suppose up at cliffe as one or two are still showing but that's about it of anything worthwhile :D

And the now what appears to be the very rare bass

Not had one up there in probably 15/20 sessions out there at cliffe, but then again i fish any state of tide and any weather, havent really specifically targeted any fish accept bass this summer and done ok'ish, also had a few ray sessions but blanked, dont really like fishing for rays,i cant stand handling them lol also tried for mullet in Swanscombe a couple of times, used small lures with rag and tried floating trout pellets all on light gear but no joy,bit hit and miss for me this summer, still its always good to get out and atleast give it ago
