In the good old days when God was a lad, I used Abu 7000 reels, mainly for fishing Angelsey and the Menai strait. Are they still the same reel or are they not what I remember.

You would be better to invest in a AKIOS as their 757CTM is now what the ABU 7000 used to be, I came back into the game a while ago and ABU had let things slide on the quality of build as I bought the 6500TSR and it is good real that is supposedly built in Sweden I would say there are a few things that ABU skimmed on to cut corners.
Yes it would as they are similar in capacity and performance although no magnetic braking on the slosh, not sure about the longevity of the modern SL30SH though and others may comment on that.
