Hi folks, I've looked at several websites for sea temperatures and there can be quite a difference between what they are saying, so some must be wrong. Which ones do you know are actually accurate?
I use Seatemperature.info for quick and easy use. I get the impression their data comes from recordings buoys, as it shows fluctuations and compares to previous record minimums/maximums. Unlike others which I think are just based on models.
A good one that would require some perseverance is this one: Worldview: Explore Your Dynamic Planet
As it comes from satellite recordings with NASA, it is undoubtedly accurate but susceptible to delays due to cloud coverage. It also shows sea temperature anomalies, which is great for anticipating trends, as well as a whole heap of other functions.
I used to use this one Southwest England and United Kingdom – Fishing Charts
Only I used the section for my area not the UK obviously but I did often look at the water temps to see patterns in the bluefin tuna you were getting.
Thank you gents, many thanks for your help, it's much appreciatedChannel Coastal Observatory website is going to cover most of your needs unless you are going a long way offshore. National Coastal Monitoring - Realtime Data
Hi Yarrowsmith, I thought it would be interesting to compare catches in different areas with sea temperatures to see if I can spot any patterns regarding when various species might turn up in an area or leave an area. How would you use the info when you get it?
