It does look like a fantastic reel but probably going to be the price of a pair of fathom 15's magged.

On the plus side, when it's released, it might incentivise Penn to allow tackle dealers to give discounts on pairs of the new fathom mags, which has to be good for us punters.

 

Wonder if there'll be a L/Hander available like the CTM's & Shuttles?

Let's wait and see one in the flesh first , I've had a search on the Internet and can't find any release date or prices

Thought finally after the false alarm with the L/H Penn 525 some years back that i might now be able to buy a L/H rough ground/casting multi.
Just had a gander at the Nitron on Akios's facebook page- someone one on there has asked about a L/Hand version- reply from Akios "only available as a R/Hander- for the time being".
So i'll have to let all you right handers find out how good or bad they are & hope Akios bring out a cack handed (Lefty) version soon.

The akios nitro seems interesting !
1.does it have a better mag knobby system than the FTM2 casting special ? I hear d CS knobby is a click adj. type. Akios claims their knobby adj is a minute mag adj. Says will be totally safe fully wound on and totally insane when wound off.! Sounds interesting.!
2.akios nitro is a 6:2 ratio(that's really fast!) it even uses oversized gears now I need something that is really fast ! I hate the slow retrieve reels I go fishing n fun casting n need to really get it back just like a Penn ! Think this nitro is up to the job.? The Big question is can the akios nitro be as good in cranking as the Penn fathom can.? The fathom is a master wincher + it casts great! Is the nitro as good as the fathom.?
Any thoughts I'm comparing this to the fathom 2 casting special?(but I don't like nitros colour though!)

Mark ,how do you compair it to the Penn you was fishing with

 

The Akios has a better retrieve and is nice to cast. My Penn is magged too but the Akios mag is much more positive to set. I like the fathom but this Akios is s very nice reel with more line capacity

 

So the big question. Fathom Casting Special or the Akios Nitron. ???????????

 

Maybe a penn casting special with a mono mag conversion ?

 

The Penn fathom casting special has a colossal spool capacity & is capable of giving anyone the flutters when fully loaded & set up properly . Spinning up by thumb will result in it running and running - though the mags do make it controllable.
We’ve just fished the Casting Special against the Akios Nitron this evening... I’ve had the casting special a couple of days and not had chance to have the Nitron in bits yet but it cast & fished very assuredly tonight in a howling gale , terrible conditions for a test really but my buddy fished the Nitron and found it very safe under pressure, it was blowing probably 25mph+ across & at us so was dreadful for casting into,on top of which all the gear was running with water in the driving rain but we managed 2 unfamiliar reels like they were old friends so certainly both user friendly .

Despite preconceptions about the Penn’s mag system not being a monomag I didn’t feel it was an issue in the slightest, load that big old spool up & if you like running it on the edge you’ll love it....

Though we all know stated reel capacities are absolute tosh ,often bearing little resemblance to real world capacities , especially when converted from Yds to M there’s no missing the numbers on the Penn....400yds+ of .38 needless to say it’s a different spool to the old one!!!
As the pics show it’s been run pretty full tonight & that spool takes a wee bit of stopping.... the lads are awaiting my colossal birdie pics but happy to disappoint , no mishaps tonight !
Can’t wait to get the Casting special out in daylight & have a play with the wind at my back, I’m not saying it’s a TG F1 by any means but Penn have put right their failure to mag the original fathoms....it’s a nice reel with all the assurance of the original. Gerrys have reported customer feedback of the reel being almost uncontrollable... akin to the ALC Mag .... and had a couple back already, swapping for the ‘standard ‘ Fathom Mag . I didn’t feel it was that bad but it’ll keep you on your toes ....

Matty P has the Nitron ATM , hopefully be out again this week with it, certainly seems a more ‘conventional’ spool capacity judging by how deep into the spool he was with a similar distance cast to myself- where the Fathom was still much fuller. The Nitron has a Marmite handle, you’ll love it or hate it .... I think it looks a very competent reel but not so sure about the finish- mind you in good old Penn tradition the Penn logo on the mag adjuster is wearing off after 1 session
