Did notice that, all in straight, just not as smooth as the Fathom's, see what their like after using them

 

Check the rachet cog is not rubbing ,mine was have it a very very gentle rub with wet n dry

 

Yep it seems to be normal with these reels mate, my local tackle shop had 4 in stock and all 4 were loud and felt a bit crunchy when reeling, its the reason i steered clear and bought a casting special instead, much smoother

 

For a reel that costs what it does, it's a poor reel, like reeling in through treacle and sounding like a bag of spanners. thing is, I did the research, all the Vids, Andy Webb, Irish blokes, J H, no one mentioned the lack of smoothness,

 

yeah i know, was surprised myself when i tried them, at first i thought it was a dodgy one, but tried all 4 and all 4 were the same.... should be smooth as silk for the money it costs

 

oddly its nearly
a great reel...... just not
as good as the casting special.

 

Had a look at the ratchet cog Mike, didn't sand it down but removed it and then put it back on, for some reason the reel is a lot smoother now, Cog may have not been correctly seated, plus i did put a dab of TG liquid grease on the shaft it sits on, it's a lot better, but still a tad bit behind the Casting specials in smoothness, but acceptable. thanks for the tip Mike, thanks all for the advice.

 

I got a pair when they first came out,I took them apart removed all the blue grease and flushed the bearings re oiled yellow rocket fuel they are so smooth ive said to me mates they are as quiet as my 7ht st's they are better than my casting special on weight and the stupid mag placement alone.

thanks for the advice Rich, took them out today, they cast ever so smoothly, retrieve is ok , could be smoother, may have to do as Rich said, you can almost feel the grease hampering the retrieve, but overall very pleased with them, much better casting than my Penn CS's

 

There is one thing though, the screws in the sideplate don't seem to robust, looks like they will round off in time, might get a few to keep as back up, anyone got the address/website for Akios spares or even crown screws that fit, Akios should of realised that anglers regulary take off the side plate to clean /lube etc.
