hi mate , if you put your thumb on the reel and then grip the rod , you should be able to get a deeper grip , if you do it the outher way hold the rod then grip with your thumb it want be so deep , help this helps you

Yep. Same as an Abu 6500. I've got small hands and I can get my thumb almost round to the front bar.

 

If you went for the Shuttle, they have a very low profile frame, and sit very low on the rod. I have very small hands but have no problem gripping my Shuttle`s. Hope this helps.....
