Fished Aldeburgh last night with Karl (Smithy36). We decided to give it a go despite hearing some mixed reports but we knew there was always the chance of some cod being around.

On arrival the place was nearly empty with only five cars near the gate and the majority of the rods positioned along the first 300yds of the path. The conditions were perfect with a good chop to the sea and a moderate SSW wind. We fished the flood down near the aerials and I ended up with three cod of 6lb 8oz, 7lb 12oz and 9lb 8oz. Interestingly two of the cod took live whiting, which had impaled themselves on the 6/0 bigmouth extras and doubled up lug/ whole squid baits. I had ignored the whiting bites until the rod tip had pulled down in a proper bite and the grips trundled off down tide. All fish were caught on the flood, were in prime condition and gave really good thumping fights. On inspection it was found that they had been feeding on sprats.

As well as the cod we had the usual whiting and although he tried his best Karl did not get a cod this time round, which goes to show just how isolated the pockets of cod are at the moment.

We spoke to an angler fishing near the onac car park who had had a 3lb codling as well, good to meet you. Many thanks Karl for the cracking bait and look forward to our next trip either back to Aldeburgh or on the Humber.

Here are some pics of the fish:

excellent result paul, well done on the pb , I really don't know how you manage it!!!

But I do reckon you've got the live bait rig off to a tee there, the huge amount of whiting around could explain why the cod aren't interested in our old worms and squid. Going to try something similar next session.

I think I preferred you when you used to fish Lincs all the time!!

Sledman strikes again! Top fishing coalie and congrats on the 9 n'a half + the rest.
Just goes to show that if you fish well and get one from that stretch it's generally a good one but it's oh so patchy.

Thanks for the report Paul excellent nights fishing" for some" LOL at least it was the right call not to sit at home waiting for that phone call feeling quite fit after the walk did't seem as bad as previous walks although I was only able to produce yting just being there is magical just knowing the next bite could be a fish of a life time.can't wait to go back.
See you soon

Suprised myself to get three Chris, its just being in the right place at the right time I suppose. I was still using lug and squid but just left the yting out there when I got the bites.

Cheers Dan, I like the Lincs coast but this time last year I put in 15 sessions in a row and only had whiting and dabs on the beach, hopefully some cod might return this season. Need another sledge as the last one got a hole in it and filled up with gravel every 100yds, a bit hard work on the way back, like ploughing a field !

Nice report well done on the fish. You walk or got key?
Hi mate, we walked about 2 miles.

Can't hurt leaving a yting out there on the bait, especially now the cod might be chasing live fish (sprats). Hooking up might be the problem if the points get masked, I think big hooks are the way to go, last years I was using 2/0 to 4/0's but perhaps 6/0's give better chance of not beind hidden in the bait.
