Fished Aldeburgh last night with Karl (Smithy36). We decided to give it a go despite hearing some mixed reports but we knew there was always the chance of some cod being around.
On arrival the place was nearly empty with only five cars near the gate and the majority of the rods positioned along the first 300yds of the path. The conditions were perfect with a good chop to the sea and a moderate SSW wind. We fished the flood down near the aerials and I ended up with three cod of 6lb 8oz, 7lb 12oz and 9lb 8oz. Interestingly two of the cod took live whiting, which had impaled themselves on the 6/0 bigmouth extras and doubled up lug/ whole squid baits. I had ignored the whiting bites until the rod tip had pulled down in a proper bite and the grips trundled off down tide. All fish were caught on the flood, were in prime condition and gave really good thumping fights. On inspection it was found that they had been feeding on sprats.
As well as the cod we had the usual whiting and although he tried his best Karl did not get a cod this time round, which goes to show just how isolated the pockets of cod are at the moment.
We spoke to an angler fishing near the onac car park who had had a 3lb codling as well, good to meet you. Many thanks Karl for the cracking bait and look forward to our next trip either back to Aldeburgh or on the Humber.
Here are some pics of the fish:
