Hi all
First post on the site, so here goes
Planned to get out on Saturday to begin with, but stuck to gardening duties as I figured everywhere would be packed with bank
holiday makers
Sunday morning picked up some Rag and a couple of peelers from PA in Worthing (all credit to them for staying open over the whole weekend)
Later on took Mrs & nipper to Goring beach for a paddle and look see if I would be able to fish my choosen spot,.....to find
the whole world and his auntie right where I wanted to be (and two empty groins adjacent)!! I wondered, what if I'd shouted SHARRRKKK!!
Anyway dropped missus and nipper back home and put rods in car.
Returned about 3:30 to find beach had cleared (someone must have shouted SHARRRKKK!!)..... Perfect
Set up my "schoolboy" rod (no that's not the maker, it's how long I've owned it) with a beaded wishbone rig baited with rag.
Out it went to the feature, about 70 yards or so.
Second rod set up with single 2/0 on free running trace baited with whole crab at same distance.
Had barely got that on the stand, before a nibble on the first rod.
Pulled in to find a small flounder amongst the weed, (which was building).
Baited & recast to same spot. Five minutes and another good bite on same rod....double shot flounder and schoolie!! Things
were looking up!
For the hour upto H/W the weed thickened up, but wasn't intolerable as I was getting frequent bites on the WB rig and had
3 or 4 more schoolies around 30cm.
Just as the tide was on the turn the sea "came alive" about 80 yards in front of me. Could see fish breaking the surface, but
couldn't see what they were.
The weed started to abate now and I decided to pull in the other rod as it hadn't done anything and was probably festooned!
Got it halfway back and small rod was off again...another nice little bass.
Was now getting a fish a cast, and was finding it difficult to get the big rod cleared and out again.
Ended up with at least a dozen schoolies, all but 1 on the small rod.
Fished till 19:00 when bites and bait both ended
All fish returned, needless to say.
Cracking afternoon, capped off with curry delivery just as I'd pulled onto the driveway.
Also, just like to say many thanks to all the contributors on the site. Great info and humour.
