So im bored at work , looking through last couple of years results , and gave Joe a call .

Joe ,joe , i know its going to be middle of the day pants wind , but i really really have a good feeling about this spot ,

Now its a big call for me to ask joe down from kent mid week on a whim of mine , but luckily he trusted my call (not that it takes much for joe to bunk off work )

We meet up in a secret area , and ready ourselfs for a 3 to 4 mile hike , i must be mad he said , your see i said , your see .

We round a couple of bays , and see two women in the middle of no where sunbathing , weird we thought , how did they get there .

They had about 5 dogs with um , that ran up to us , then couple turned nasty , one went for joe and missed , then grabbed my leg , tearing a hole in my waders

Just above the knee , drawing blood at the same time , it was a cocker spaniel so i was shocked , as i tried to boot it IN THE HEAD :boxing:

Lady runs down saying she is so sorry and it must have been the rods that spooked it , what ever i said , should have made more of it , because if it had been a young child could have been nasty , as waders were hand me downs , and ripped at the butt i couldnt cry to much about that , although now i could only wade knee deep .

Got to my mark about 1hr and 1o mins from car , sweating , but it looked good , joe and i pick a couple rocks not far apart , and a fish jumps infront of us ,

On with the surface lures , joe is on fire 4 fish in no time at all , me NONE , one of joes was a very nice fish , this chap can do no wrong this year , and we put the tape over it , 60 cm , but think photo may show 59 , hard to do with fish kicking about thats going back ,

so we have a new leader , i move on a bit and find a 54cm fish , so my 1st 3 pound plus fish , and then find 4 more ,

Then as it comes to the best time , NOTHING MORE :wallbash:

but cant moan , i sort of got it right and I think we have a new leader in the wsf lure comp , (JOE )

all fish come off the TOP , we tried lots of things , but thats all they wanted , and i think joe had a fish nearer 8 pound surface and turn away , showing itself clearly .

But of course , you cant catch 9 fish off the top until the water gets warm near the end of the season (LMFAO )

GREAT DAY OUT , AND WELL FISHED joe , AT 4 NIL down i thought you had me :help:

BUT THE CREAM ALWAYS RISES TO THE TOP MY SON , LOL ........

we must have missed another 7 to 9 fish each , i pricked 2 more that got off , they seem a little shy , not really hitting as they should have , could have been a REAL dream session , but o well always next time , off to get tetanus jab now in case the dog had rabies :headhurt:

Cheers
MARK

Super report. Your priorities show you to be a real fisher: the damage to the wader comes before the bleeding leg.
Good fishing as well. I am filled with admiration for folk who catch decent bass in the middle of the day. I've given up trying; I only fish before 08:00 or after 20:00, when the bass seem less canny.

well done for carrying on!no joke when dogs do that, there are lots of dog walkers on the way down to one of my marks and a few weeks ago a wolf[i kid you not]ran up to me!!hungry yellow eyes the lot, when i got to the owners i laughed and said your dog looks like a wolf, they looked at each other sheepishly and replied it was half wolf and carried on by,trying to think of a joke about bison waders, but its not coming, well done on the fish..

What can I say? First class report, and top fishing as always lads.

Mark, it is quite astonishing how you find the fish in such tough conditions, total respect to you.:punk:

Joe, still on form and catching the big ones I see, well done you. I see that puts you as the new leader of the comp, well done again.

Were the bite and the whole in the waders worth it for the view of the sunbathers? Maybe some consolation if so.

Wading knee deep you say Mark, bloody hell that must have been shallow water. LOL.:black_eye

Looks like you had a good stamp of fish between you, and off the top too, well worth the effort of the long hike I say.:1a:

Well done again lads and thanks for sharing.

Nice one Mark, Joe - things definitely seem to be picking up in most areas now in numbers and quality of fish - definitely more decent reports in the last couple of weeks or so. One detail you have failed to fill us in on in your report though....... were the sun bathing birds fit or not??!!! :)

lol Fit I'd rather of been bitten by the dog
Hence why they were out in the middle of know where! :punk::punk:

Well done guys top fishing as usual, interesting how they can switch off suddenly like that!

Shame I had to Work did manage 1 Bass when I finally got out in the evening but not the biggie I was hoping for! Certainly picking up hopefully a good few weeks ahead.

Great report can't wait for the pics.

You should never of said Joe's Big one at the beginning of the year would not count in the comp:nono:

Joe will probably catch another monster and win it now.:punk:

Wish i could get out more, but don't think my boss would appreciate me sloping off:wallbash:

Here's the pic of my 5lb bass, can never get enough of catching of the top, great fun.

I know people get good results fishing at night but can you really beat the the day for the complete bass experience, glorious sunny weather, the visual element just adds so much to the experience, the swirls, the splashes, the dark shadow behind you lure, is that a fish, bang, brilliant. Compare that to being out at night with only perverts and rapists to keep you company, yes you catch fish, but to me it's just doesn't come close to daylight.

cracking fish Joe, and a top session.

to me, it's completely the opposite about the dark; silent, still conditions, moon behind cloud just giving out enough light to see your lure splash down, can see the ripples spreading out as you wait a few seconds before starting the retreive. eyes closed to heighten your other senses, you hear some splashing, was it near the lure? you can feel the line go slightly slack as the lure surfs down the bow wave of the unseen following fish. then you make out the disturbance of the lure again as it wakes across the surface but then it disappears? slight tension in the line and rod tip, sudden increase in resistance, head banging! senses now fully tuned you feel the fish heading one way, then the other, where are the obstacles? where can i land it? headlight on as the fish approaches the shore, reach down and grab it. cant beat it.

had to have the jab at the docs , feels like i got a dead arm ,

popped back early afternoon , same spot (sad chasing fish really , ) knew i wouldnt get long but managed 7 bass , the best again 54 cm , so thats a couple over 3 pound in 18 fish , great news , but also means i got 42 small fish coming my way soon :headhurt:

Over a 2 hr round trip walk , for about an hr and half fishing , when you know thats all your going to get , for that sort of effort you can call your self a REAL bass man lol .

Had one 49cm that fought like a tiger , really thought it was going to be way bigger , its strange how a fish nearly 3 pound fights well above its weight , that in its self made the walk worth while ,

lovely sun tan to , all off the top again , bigger fish coming to a bigger lure , but less fish , so when you only have a short window , you need to mix it up a bit imho .

Leg has a huge bruise to go with the mouth shape punture wounds :bangin:

Sorry im with joe , was fishing the old tiny red gill behind a bubble float years ago in pitch black , caught loads , boring as , had couple fish to 6 pound to , but just the fact its dark , takes something away for me .

Ill do odd session but its always white that works way way better than black for me at night .

Had a couple on a j13 with joe and tom in the dark to , still boring , slow and slower , like watching paint dry ,

im sure you get bigger fish at night , but i would rather catch smaller ones than swap to it .

Each to there own , and lovely write up Bill portland :punk:

Also it messes you up for the next day . Hard enough playing sleep catch up as it is

Nice fishing guys...well done. I prefer it in the day myself but sometimes in the summer dog days I gotta go after dark to catch (I dont have Marks knowledge of marks that produce in the middle of hot still days!)

Had a few close call with dogs myself over the year...really ****es me off when the owners say it must be the fishing rod....no it must be they cant control or train their bloody animals

Great report and some very good angling!

I have to agree about fishing in the dark, although it can be productive it does feel like you are fishing blind. For me however I like getting up really early and fishing as the sun comes up, as soon as that light bulb goes on bang the fish are there. Something quite special about that experience.

Well done lads, definately a good start.
Hope you,re up to date with your Tetanus injections Mark, I couldn,t hold anything for 3 months when I got bit by a dog 5 years ago. My left arm swelled up like a balloon from elbow to finger tips.
no i was not , 1990 was last one ,
Had one yesterday , feels like a dead arm.
Dogs are one of the worst for germs , doc said :headhurt: always licking each others BUTTS
So i take it sheep must be bad to

It's your own fault for catching so many bloody fish. If you stopped wiping your hands on your waders your legs wouldn't smell like a dogs dinner. It wasn't that he didn't like you, you just smelt like lunch!!! :roll1:

I applaud your restraint for not insisting on using the dog as bait (good job you're lure only). You've got to stop going to these dodgy areas (all dogging jokes withheld).

Cheers.....SCG

PS: Increased my species count this week with a Specimen sized Twaite Shad, my first ever and on a lure of course (fly).

A fat great labrador nearly trod on my new megabass rod as I was chilling on the grass above the rocks after a sesh today. Maybe now you'll be converted to my style of wading apparel - a pair of boardshorts costing 70p from the local chazza!

Well done on the fish Mark, I've had a few nice ones from a new spot over the last few days, best went just over 5 pounds, couple bang on 3 and a load of tiddlers. Best of all they were caught on lures from my box of doom, old tat I'm forcing myself to use this year. Loving this weather it's making me want to fish all the time.
