Hi Guys,

I have not long moved to the Salisbury area and am looking for some Dorset marks where I stand a good chance of catching a bass on a fly?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Plenty of bass fishing all along that bit of coast Muller - might bit a little bit early yet to go out after them. Normally by the second set of spring tides in May there should be some decent nubmers of fish about.

Do a recky of some likely spots at low water then fish when the tide turns up to high tide. You're looking for structure (that will divert the flow / cause rips), large bouldered beaches, heavy weed - anything that looks like it will hold a bass probably will do.

To maximise you're chance concentrate on first light (literally first light - 3.30 am onwards in June) and last light.

From your web site you look like you know your fishing - so I woulnd't have thought you'd have too many problems catching.

Fly wise you won't go far wrong on clouser minnows (Chartruse / white) or sandeel patterns.

Hey Muller, welcome to WSF.

Dont know Dorset but i have had Bass on the fly great fun, best advice i can give is fish your fly with or at 45 to the current, you wont get a nibble if you fish it against or at 90.

Find a mark that either juts out into the main tide rip or somewhere you can safely wade and cast into the current. Dont be worried about it being shallow as i have had then in less than 2ft of water.

All the best bud Ryan.
