I've recently bought a little fishing boat to do some fishing with my two young children, it will be used at in shore marks and only when flat calm. I've only just one across this forum and stumbled across the discussion about the dejon 14ft boat been unsafe. After some research on Google as to what the dejon looks like the boat I've bought👎. I've attached a pic to see if anyone can say for definite if it is the same boat or not
Any help will be gratefully appreciated!!

This is what I've read since buying it, it wasn't advertised as a dejon and the guy I bought it off used it with his young family and ensured me it was very stable at sea. But after having a look at some pics they look very similar to me. Just wondering if someone can confirm it via the pics above. If it is then I'll be seriously thinking of getting rid of it

Whatever it is the freeboard looks really low. Where do the top of the grab rails come up your legs when you stand in it?

The first boat I ever looked at had a similarly low freeboard. Didn't seem too bad on the trailer but when I went out for a trial it scared the crap out of me! That guy said he takes his kids out too bit I would never have put my kids on it in anything except a small river or lake.

Same here - not been on one, but people I know who have say they are as dangerous as their reputation suggests, so I would not take my kids on one.

What did you pay for it - the engines and trailer look good - perhaps you can recover what you paid by selling these items separately - I'm afraid I wouldn't even sell the boat, or put that auxiliary on it as the main engine (keep the 25 for another boat or to sell) and sell it as a canal boat and stress to whoever buys it that you're selling it as a canal boat only.

I paid 1600 for the boat with the engines, fish finder and a few extras. Thanks for all the advice. Wish I had seen this site before I bought it
Just noticed where you would (presumably) be using it - definitely not a boat for that location I would say.

The way I would go, would be to remove the 25 and the electronics and any other sea related extras, put that 3.5 on the main transom (assuming the shaft is the right length) and, as I said earlier, advertise it as a canal boat (it should be OK in that role) for ÂŁ900, then with the value of the bits and bobs and the 25, you should just about come out even or maybe ÂŁ100-ÂŁ200 down.

I did see one once where the owner had glassed 18" wide sponsons down each side - apparently it was still not good!

Wouldn't it be great if some rich charitable person bought up every Dejon that came onto the market and torched them. Until that happens, there will continue to be disasters and there is nothing that can be done to stop it except through word of mouth like on here.

It would be good salar.
But people will buy blind at times without the research first.

I did that.

One thing it did teach me the dejon if you a can Handle one of them with chop on you can handle most.

Waste of a good tomato planting pot though innit?

As already said, with a higher than original cuddy it has made an already dangerous boat even more deadly. Please do not ever take it to sea, my dead Dad, brother, uncle and cousin are more than enough reason to stop anyone ever using one again. I wish the whole lot of Dejons had been burned after their accident almost 40 years ago.

Thanks for all your advice, Ive sold the boat this morning without losing anything on it. Also the guy that bought it was actually looking for a dejon as he used to have one and was saying how happy he was with them??

Ive been looking for a replacement on the internet, and have seen a couple im interested in one is a 15ft dory cjr with a 40hp Yamaha on it, The other is a Shetland with same size engine, also seen a couple of seahog although im struggling to see the difference between the cjr and the seahog from the pics!

Any advice on which one is most suited to me taking out the family and doing some fishing would be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks

The CJR moulds are one of those that seem to have 'done the rounds' so you will find very similar boats under a different name - Seahog in particular have made quite a few boats that have previously been on the market from other manufacturers.

The Shetland sounds interesting - hard to go wrong with one of those - just bear in mind that even the best boats and/or engines can be abused and neglected, so even when looking at a boat with a good name, you need to view it with your eyes wide open.
